Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Converting 100's to minutes and seconds

    I am a stand-up comic and have a numeric field (JOKETIME) that I'm entering the time it takes to perform a particular joke. And then I have a "total"field for the total time for a group of jokes. How do I convert the total of "8.95" for instance into minutes and seconds? Your help would be appreciated!

    I have no doubt there's a simpler way, but here's one, and I'm assuming your total time -- ntime field below -- is numeric:

    Code:
    ntime = 8.95
    realtime = ltrim(str(int(ntime))) + ":" + padl(ltrim(str(((val(right(ltrim(str(ntime,5,2)),2)) * 60) / 100))),2,"0")
    ?realtime
    = "8:57"

      steve gave you perfect answer.
      i am just curious how you got the number 8.95.

      total of "8.95"
      in other words, what will be the duration of each individual jokes?
      i would have thought
      8.95 = 14 minutes and 55 secs
      minutes = int(895/60)
      seconds = mod(895, 60)

      total_duaration_of_jokes = int(895/60)+":"+mod(895,60)

      or a general formula would be

      total_duration_of_jokes = int(total_time_in_seconds / 60)+":"+mod(total_time_in_seconds,60)

        Re: Converting 100's to minutes and seconds

        Is 8.95 a number of minutes?
        It can't possibly be hours! I hope not....but could be seconds..say the time for one joke..
        But if it is the number of minutes, then all you need is to convert the decimal into seconds, you already have the minutes.
        So, what is it?
        It's never funny when people ask obscure questions.

          Working with the assumption that it is minutes:
          Code:
          joke_time=8.95
          ?int(joke_time)+":"+(joke_time-int(joke_time))*60
          = "8:57"

          ?int(joke_time)+" minutes and "+(joke_time-int(joke_time))*60+" seconds"
          = "8 minutes and 57 seconds"

            Re: Converting 100's to minutes and seconds

            joke_time=8.95
            ?int(joke_time)+":"+(joke_time-int(joke_time))*60
            = "8:57"
            This doesn't produce what he wants if the first minutes are less than 10. For instance:

            Code:
            joke_time=8.05
            ?int(joke_time)+":"+(joke_time-int(joke_time))*60
            = "8:3.000000000000043"

              Re: Converting 100's to minutes and seconds

              That is the correct answer.
              5% of a minute is 3 seconds.
              I don't know what format he wants the output in, so I provided couple different ones.
              Here is another:
              Code:
              joke_time=8.05
              ?int(joke_time)+":"+padl(""+int((joke_time-int(joke_time))*60),2,"0")
              = "8:03"
              Incidentally, in my system, the answer is slightly different:
              Code:
              joke_time=8.05
              ?int(joke_time)+":"+(joke_time-int(joke_time))*60
              = "8:3.00000000000004"

                Steve, it worked perfectly! Thanks a bunch!

                It was 8 minutes 95 seconds before converting :)

                    I don't know as I had already added more jokes with times before I added the formula :(

                        Chuck, I think you need to explain how you calculated the 8.95 total. What are you using to time it that produces this number?

                        Is it really 8min 95 secs? If it is then Steve's solution isn't going to work for you.

                        Or is it 8 minutes and 0.95 of a minute. In which case Steve's solution will work for you.

                        Gabriel is right you need to provide more detail to ensure your given the correct solution.

                          8 minutes 95 seconds sounds like it should be 9 minutes 35 seconds.

                            Sorry for just getting back to this. For example I have 5 jokes entered, and each joke is timed. Joke 1 is 38 seconds, Joke 2 is 1 minute 15 seconds, joke 3 is 41 seconds, and joke 4 is 22 seconds and joke 5 is 1 minute 11 seconds and those times are entered into a numeric field. They all total 247 seconds. How do I convert that to minutes and seconds?
