Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    HTML Memo Bug in V11

    Hi All,

Anyone know of a fix for the attached bug in V11 (OK in V10)

Create a simple form with a HTMLMemo field and when the 'Pencil' icon is clicked app locks up and only way out is Ctrl-Alt_Del

Be grateful if anyone can come up with a fix

    Michael
I just went to a table, added a html memo to it. Created a form with several indesript fielss plus the memo. ran the form, clicked the pencil and it worked just fine.
I did this in an app I was working on for somebody else, so can't upload it here, but it did work as expected. No lock ups.

I did not try this in a rt situation.

    edit: win8.1 and ie11
I can try it on others, but don't think it will answer more.

      Michael,

Your sample works fine on my machine, development version installed. XP running, IE8.
      There can be only one.

Might this be related to the version of Internet Explorer you're running? I vaguely recall that there have been posts here about changes MS made in IE11...

The error dialog says "dhtml" which IS related to running developer on IE11. The word from Alpha is that A5V11 Developer will not run if your machine has IE11 installed. I do not remember if other forum members found a cure for this or not.

Explain?: I am running IE11 on a windows 8.1 machine and duplicating it runs fine.

Just to be sure, I went back, downloaded the bugzip files and tested. They worked fine.

I think what Steve is talking about is a web app when testing it on your own machine. That is a different animal than a windows desktop app.

Re: HTML Memo Bug in V11

                Dave,

Yes this is a desktop version, and I use Firefox or Chrome anyway so cannot see how IE11 should affect the app, no problem with V10 or V11 Memo or RTFMemo fields

To repeat I create a table with 2 fields Number >Numeric and Message>HTMLMemo add a few numeric records and then open either default browse or form and then cannot access the Message>HTMLmemo field unless I click the 'Pencil' icon and every time get the error message and Alpha locks up only way out is Ctrl-Alt-DEL via taskmgr.

I have done further tests and can now repeat the bug using V10 or V9 on the Win 7 PC but runs OK with V10 on the Win8.1 PC.

I really need someone else to experience this bug so that we can compare and understand why some PCs and not others!

                    Ray,

The last Win 7 should read Win 8.1 but just to complicate the situation, I have rebooted the Win 7 PC and V10 is OK now, there must have been something still in memory from all the other test lockups that I was creating while testing the problem

A Microsoft tech told me that Windows 7 should use IE 10 and W8 use IE11 - each one is specifically written for the different versions of Windows. Even though you CAN install IE11 on W7, he said it is not recommended

No, the IE11 issue is on Alpha Five V11 Developer using Win8.1 and IE11. Although primarily a problem on Web development, I tested what is reported by Michael, and confirmed that this is the same issue with IE11.

Regarding that bug*, it does not matter that "you use Firefox, Chrome, etc.". It has nothing to do with what browser you use, Alpha Five V11 and prior USE IE internally. V12 and beyond use Chrome internally.

*they are not going to fix it in V11.

I just retested this with win7 and ie11 and still find 0 problems.
Now, if he were doing wcd, I could not test it.

If this is correct then there is no way that we can dictate to our clients which version of IE they use so I guess that means I will have to abandon the HTML feature and go back to Plain Text memo.
