Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Where has my Upsize Database Genie gone to?

I'm using the latest un approved version of V11 and it seems to have disappeared.
    Any ideas?

You seem to have uncovered a reason it is unapproved.
    There can be only one.

you can always use something like sqlyog, or one of the others to get the dbf's into sql even if it is a pain. Some are free ones.

No luck with the a5_UpsizeDatabaseGenie() option. It launches the process Stan, runs to step 3 and then hangs. No error message whatsoever.
The connection is to MySQL and has been checked.
It's no big deal really as I can use other tools, but it would have been nice to see it working.

Does it work if you roll back to a previous release?

                Not tried Al.
Tied up with a collaborative SQL based web app at present.
Like I said, no big deal, but you are correct, I should test it and report as a bug if it is ok in the previous version.
As for fixes in V11? There have been many requests to formally release the beta last version and AS have declined.

Re: Where has my Upsize Database Genie gone to?

Upsize Genie (latest v12 release) seems to work on small tables from DBF to SQL Server 2008.

Larger files it locks up and is not responsive. I don't see CPU, disk or network traffic so it is somehow dead.

Too bad, it was exactly what I need.

PS .... never mind ... export to SQL is what I REALLY wanted to do and that worked properly. Still had to PACK the DBF to avoid out of range record numbers.

Re: Where has my Upsize Database Genie gone to?

                        AGREED!

I'm trying to salvage an old client that had everything stuck in an 2003 Access database.

Just getting his data to SQL is half the project. Various MS tools failed, but A5 came through .... sucked the data into DBF, exported it to SQL.

Hate double jumping data but Access 2003 MDBs are a little cranky, especially when they didn't have any version of Access around.

The DBFs even show me the indices so I can do the equivalent or better in SQL.

This dead horse was already a great grandfather of dead horses.

.................... the data has been moved to SQL. Time to party! (for a while, anyway.)
