Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Parallels wont send email reports

I have just bought the new Macbook Pro and have transferred Alpha to it from my previous MacBook only this time I decided to use "Parallels" instead of bootcamp. The problem is I cant get the "send report via email" function to work, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

When you say "I cant get the "send report via email" function to work" just what do you mean?

Does that mean clicking on it does nothing or are you getting an error?

Hi Preston , Thank you for looking at my problem, the email was getting processed but then nothing else happened, ie didn't pass to the email client but no error message.

However I sorted the problem by removing Alpha, thunderbird and parallels and starting again making sure i installed thunderbird before Alpha and all is working as expected so I can only assume that with my first install, I possibly installed Alpha before the email client and therefore there was no email client for Alpha to associate with, not sure but alls good now thank you.

Just for information this was the best Alpha customer service could suggest .....

By looking at your e-mail below, it seems like you may need assistance with building your application. I can certainly tell you if something is possible to be done in Alpha (and looking at your comments, there is no reason that it cannot be done), but if you need help on how to do certain things in Alpha, then I would recommend the following options.

If you think you are dealing with an isolated error tech support can be had for $149 per incident.

If you are looking at getting assistance with building your application, we do have a mentoring service where you can purchase mentoring hours with a certified Alpha consultant.

Perhaps they will keep my, simple no cost, solution in mind for the future!!

Stan .... no going back to Bootcamp, Parallels makes things so much more convenient for us Mac converts.

          Thanks Guys

Sounds good Bill. I am mainly a PC guy but I do have a Mac for testing only. As for sending emails I found that sending through a default client such as Outlook was not the best thing to do as it still does not actually send the email until you physically open up Outlook and allow it to do a send/receive. Other wise it just sits in the outbox and never gets sent. Not sure if that is the same with Thunderbird.

What I do, and recommend to all my app users is to use Alpha 5 built in email client for sending. That way it is sent directly out with no delay and all replies come back to my regular email account.

The main thing is you got it working.
