Todays Problem

Fairly simple one today.

In my table I have fields CODE and LAST_UPDATE (amongst others).
what I want to do is write the current system date in the field LAST_UPDATE whenever the value in field CODE is changed.

I have the following in the onChange event of a field (in my case RATE for a price that changes a lot in the current climate)

var currentTime = new Date();
var month = currentTime.getMonth() + 1;
var day = currentTime.getDate();
var year = currentTime.getFullYear();
var dt=day + '/' + month + '/' + year;

{dialog.Object}.setValue('LAST_CHANGED',dt);​

You should just need to put this in your Code fields onChange event and change LAST_CHANGED to LAST_UPDATE

I do it like Lance, but using xbasic instead of javascript.

e._set.last_update.value = time("yyyy-MM-dd 0h:0m:0s",now())

I think you can also put code in the onblur event but to me this question was about the table, which I thought meant in a DB table. If that's the case, you can do that in mySQL to automatically make the change anytime a row is updated with a field default value of
ON UPDATE CURRENT_TIMESTAMP to me this would be way easier...

Problems crop up when a user starts a change but doesn't follow through. You need to get back to the status quo on a backout.
Have you looked at the AUDIT TRAIL feature?
A lot of Alpha people don't know it's there!

I had a play and found this works.

using the 'onWroteField' Event for field CODE, I added the following:

init = this.field_get().initial_value_get()
final = this.field_get().value_get()
if (init <> final) then
logging->last_update = dtoc(date())
end if
