Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

QODBC connect to Quickbooks from Alpha 5

I can't figure out why this has stopped working. i have not made any changes to either program.
i have reached out to flexquarters and they suggested to remove the Integrated application certificates which i have done.
i have another program that connects to QB and it connects just fine. I deleted the Integrated application certificate and when i tried to connect again it connects fine and QB asks if I want to allow to connect and I select yes and it works.
    I don't get that with Alpha 5.
    any suggestions?

    Thanks

from what i have read i need to re-new my certificate in Alpha ? I have used A5 to connect to QB for at least 15 years or more and this is the first time I have seen this problem.
does that make sense, am i reading that right?

Change your connection to use QODBC's Qremote.

If you have QB Enterprise and didn't need a license before , you'll need to get a license from QODBC/Flexquarters.

It's something that Intuit changed on their end.

i'm not having any luck. If I use QODBC's Qremote. then i have to pay for that. I am trying to use what comes with enterprise that has worked for 6 years and stopped. You said Intuit has done something, I only get an error message stating a revoked license from Alpha 5.

should I give up on the way that worked and buy the version from flexquarters? will the change intuit made keep the QODBC/Flexquarters from working also?

That's one option that may require a little bit of programming changes, but will work.

I have not found a direct option to over come the change that Intuit made.

Another option is to explore QXL which a front end to QODBC to easily get data into Excel - or CSV or SQL databases.

              QXL1.COM

QXL has QODBC built into it.

I've found building CSV in QXL - importing to Alpha - appending to the tables I have works very quickly. Especially if you handle MEMO fields as character limited fields - ie 240 to 254 in length.

That's much faster than what you've been able to do with QODBC directly into Alpha.

If you really need the entire memo field performance suffers greatly.

I haven't tried, but there may be a design where there are memo fields each in an individual CSV file named with a unique key that would be very fast. but not as handy as a field in a table.

Or you can use excel to import data and then build actions to import and then append in Alpha.

But you do need to move on from what was working before.

thanks for that. I plan on trying that out.
If I upgrade to the latest build of A5 that should give it an updated certificate, would that solve the Intuit problem?

My testing has shown that A5v12 has the same issue. Strange but true.

Use Sys_shell_wait() to call QXL and then import the CSV files into Alpha.

                              Look at solution #4.
