Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Activate version 11

I have Alpha 5 V11 never installed yet. Will it activate if I install a new machine?

Well it is unsupported now so installing a virgin version may require you to contact Alpha for the Activation key.
    Just suck it and see.
They took your cash, so should honour it.

I had a working copy of Version 10.5 developer. Had to reformat and reinstall Windows 10 (for reasons other than Alpha) In the past this was a no brainer if the machine name was the same I could put in the license number and was good to go. Now I can't activate. It says "Thank you for activating" but then the prompt comes up every time I open Alpha. Has anyone found a solution for this? This is going to be critical at some point as I have an application that I have to maintain. Runtime, so far, seems fine but I haven't tried to reinstall that or put on a new computer. This is getting kind of worrisome. I tried calling customer service but no call back. I'll try more next week but any suggestions appreciated.

        Thanks in advance.

          You need to reactivate.
Several posts about how to do this in the V11 and V10 forums.

Your activation key is in your Roaming Folder on the original machine.

When you are asked to Activate, enter it.

Make sure the Roaming folder as you have rejigged the Win10 stuff, has the key in it.

I thought the easiest way to deal with the license key was to bury it in a license.key text file in the alpha program folder.

                RT yes.
Dev needs Roaming Folder to have the key.

No I did not. I never installed before and not have the activation code in roaming folder. I think they should supply a bypass for older versions, this would show food faith and loyalty. Anyone have any luck with my situation?

You are unlikely to get an activation code from Alpha after all this time. See post#2
You could always try contacting sales.
Or use the Community version, or seeing anyone will sell you theirs.

If you are only interested in building desktop applications using DBF files, I would try emailing Richard Rabins directly.
You may be able to work something out either activating your product or to get a current version of Alpha.
I'm pretty certain, the community edition will only work with the WEB, does not support DBF files.
One can only access the WEB control panel. The normal control panel is hidden.
                      Alpha 5 Version 11
AA Build 2999, Build 4269, Current Build
                      DBF's and MySql

maybe we’re giving the wrong advice.
The key should be in the email confirming the purchase.

We know that when you start V11, it phones home to see if the license key is valid, and then alpha returns some value.

                              Not quite, Gregg.
Try starting V11 with no Internet. It fires up.

In one of my apps, to prevent "lift and shift", I grab data from the initial machine and get it by email.
The key I send back is specific to that machine (a bit of clandestine processing goes on here), so the app won't work if not on the original machine.
After the initial key download, it never needs doing again as the key is secured on the host PC.
Alpha worked in a similar way, by email or through their old Activation Server.

@Ron. There was a freebie V12 which Richard sent out 2014? Which works with DBF.
Richard has always been good to me so it might work.
Lenny is also a good person to deal with.
