Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Relation Corrupt

Running v11. My files are on a server. Worked this morning without problems. Sometime through the course of the day I lost wireless signal to the server. When I re-booted the server and PC I go an error message of "(my path to the server": Relation Corrupt. I attempted to restore back up from yesterday (it was working correctly yesterday when back up was done), but drew the same error. The primary table is called "initial" and a set of the same name. I checked the indexes and first had a bad index but have re-indexed without success. I can browse the table and the data is present but browse the set and I draw the same error.

Is there anyway to reconnect the table and the set?

    Re: Relation Corrupt

When looking at the tables tab in the control panel, are there any tables listed with either an exclamation mark or question mark?

Are all the tables listed there in the same folder - presumably in a folder on the server?

I have had the "Relation corrupt" when a table in the set is not available. It's discerning, but recoverable...

      Re: Relation Corrupt

All tables and Sets appear to be there as do the forms. They are all in the same folder on the server directory. I've attempted to restore backup for 4 days past getting the same message.

        Re: Relation Corrupt

You might have lost the index used to link the primary table in the set. Alpha will sometimes drop an index if it can't reconcile something (a filter?). Maybe you changed something previously that only now is showing up? (Hence why the backup isn't working either?) I would try rebuilding the set with a new name; when you get it working again, you can copy over the old set's forms, reports, etc. to it.

Thanks. Barring a major fix I guess I'll spend my Saturday re-entering the table relationships.

            Re: Relation Corrupt

I built the new set but how do I get the forms to pull data from the new set. I have a tabbed form that is labeled to pull data from the corrupt set (same with the reports, etc.) I looked at all the options on the right mouse button list but I don't see a way to change from the old set to the new set.

I tried that and got the working symbol but nothing changed. The form is still linked to the old set.

Did you delete the old form? Or better, drop the old set from the database. If both old and new forms are present, Alpha is probably trying to open the old one.

I did not delete the old form. Are you suggesting that I delete "initial_old" and then try to "Copy to" the new set? I'm doing a back up now to at least set this point. Could it be the size of the set? Is there such a thing as too big?

Maybe just rename the old form will work

be sure to compact the database

                        Re: Relation Corrupt

You'll need the old set to recover any layouts that are based on it. So, having recreated the table relationships in a new set, use "Copy To" to copy the main form from the old set to the new. Temporarily drop the old set from the data base (you can add it back any time) or, at least, as Dave suggested, rename the form in the old set. Alpha does not like duplicate layout names. If the form works in the new set, then add back the old set to the database, use "Copy to" to move all the old layouts to the new set and, assuming you have backups, which you seem to have, then delete the old set.

No luck. When I renamed the form it disappeared.

I think you'll need to upload your files (a working sample - with no data) to the board, or to a member you trust.

I think there's something you are missing, being that you have tried backups from days prior.

I don't mean anything personal by the above, but what you see every day may not be what a fresh set of eyes sees...

Before you go crazy, try this:

I assume you have a backup the the current non working database? If not, get one.

Then, restore a complete set of files from 4 days ago.

                              Does the set now work?

If not, the loss of WiFi has created an orphaned table somewhere, perhaps in another location or mapped drive that Alpha no longer can access.
