I have been trying to set-up the Throttle User Count process, since the application I have built and am now trying to market seems to have more traction with small-medium companies rather than the single-users that I envisioned. When I follow what little instruction I can find, I cannot seem to get the process to work as I expect.
First, running the menu item under Tools -> Utilities, I get the Startup.Control file. I understand that this file needs to then be added to the A5 Runtime program folder. OK, but first I tried adding the small code piece shown (which seems to check for the existence of a .Control file) to my Autoexec , and it shows a result of .T. when the a5_check_throttle_file() function runs. This is even without a copy of Startup.Control being placed either in the programs folder, or in the folder with the application itself. I discovered that there is a file Startup.AEX in the programs folder, which seems like may be the encoded copy of the Startup.Control file. However, if I rename or move that file, A5 will not load. Same for both the developer and runtime copies. This is BEFORE the autoexec file even gets a chance to run; A5 doesn't even start.
Maybe I am not understanding how this all should work. I have seen the suggestions about user counts that were used for previous versions, but it sounds like the built-in function would be easier, and probably more secure, if I can only understand how to make it work correctly. If so, it does sound, also, like my install program for the application needs to place a copy of Startup.Control that has been properly configured for the particular user environment into the programs folder with the A5 runtime files, correct?
Thanks for any advice you can give!
