Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    McAfee blocking V11 Runtime

Our Runtime customers are suddenly having problems opening the Alpha Vll Runtime engine and we think it is McAfee creating a false positive, if we re-install V11 then OK but only until McAfee blocks it again. We have not found a way to exclude files or folders with our users versions of McAfee.

Any one know of a solution or how to contact McAfee so we can report this, the McAfee helpline will only talk to existing account holders.

    Michael,

I googled mcafee 0xc0000020 and find a lot of folks are having the same issue with other programs as well. No solutions found other than to change anti virus software.

      Hi Stan,

We are advising our customers that are running the free McAfee to uninstall and get another virus checker, this solves the problem but we can't do that with the McAfee paid for customers.

Why not? I would have no problem doing that. Let them yell for refunds. That should get it fixed.

I switched to WebRoot from AVG - not nearly as intrusive or huge as AVG. My prior experience with McAfee free was short lived. Went to Trend Micro then AVG and now WebRoot. So far I like the latter the best - small footprint and doesn't consume resources or interfere like the others were always doing... and the same Webroot license works on Win10 and XP.

Depending on how computer savvy your users are, from what I read McAfee is trashing the dll, not unregistering it. The temporary fix might be to send them a copy of the dll and when they get the McAfee error simply copy the copy to the right location.

If you have someone willing to test it for you they might try making the dll read only. I just tested that here, restarted Alpha with no issues. Not knowing what that particular dll does I can't say that it wouldn't cause issues in some facet of Alpha. Making it read only might keep McAfee from altering it.

When something like that happened with Symantec AV a couple of years ago, we were able to reach Symantec, point out that their detection was spurious and that Alpha was not a threat, it only took about 24 hours for them to correct the problem. That should give McAfee users a good reason to switch.
