Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    SQL connection problem...

I'm having trouble connecting to a SQL database in A5. As you can see in the attached pix, the database is running on the (local) server. One of the pix shows the list of running databases, while the other shows this particular database open in a little interface that allows querying, etc.

When I try to connect in A5, the db just doesn't show up. All the dbs that are apparently a part of the SQL Server 2008 installation do show up, the dbs named MASTER, etc., but not the one (TWOC) I need. Any ideas on where I could be going wrong?

    Thx...

You seem to be saying that you have visibility to all DBs except TWOC? That is not readily apparent to me from the attached pics. Yes, I see the first pic from within the manager app shows all, but I don't see in the other pic that all are present except for TWOC.

Have you experimented with a general ODBC query tool? Your post sort of seems like you did; what results?

Maybe I'm just missing it in the pics.

Update: I discovered that the machine had both SQL Server 2008 AND SQL Server 2008 Express installed. I uninstalled the Express installation.

From A5, the only dbs that were showing up were the "system" dbs listed under the Express install. Now there are NO dbs showing up in A5.

Yes, I've been using an app called SQL Console to query the db, so the db is definitely there, connected, and running.

A dialog box shows up when I connect to the database from the management console, that says: EXECUTION OF .NET FRAMEWORK CODE IS DISABLED. SET 'CLR ENABLED' CONFIGURATION OPTION AND RESTART SERVER. Could this be my issue? If so, where do I find this configuration option? I've looked high and low and cannot find it.

        Thx MUCH!

          Re: SQL connection problem...

I seem to recall SQL Console connects via ODBC and ONLY via ODBC. So there's one possible variable in the testing, as I believe A5 may implement the native MS SQL Server driver. Apples-and-Oranges. If you can find something in the SQL Server file offerings (utilities, etc) to allow attempt of native connection, I'd give that a spin. Then maybe we're looking at apples-to-apples.

I'd have to search my memory banks on the CLR ENABLED issue.

My next step is to completely uninstall SQL Server 2008 and install SQL Server 2005 instead. Will report back on progress.

            Huge thx!

I believe you can enable or disable user's ability to see certain databases or to edit their contents from with in SQL Server manager, have you checked to make sure that TWOC is actually visible to the user you log in as?
