I have about 15000 computers in our labs (Microsoft), I have them in a browse table.
I would like the last field to be a button that allows me to click on it and it runs the mstsc /v:{computer name} /console command.

I have tried it but cannot find the way to do it. Any help please??

When I click on the button it needs to run the command mstsc /v:{computer} /console.

Take a look at sys_shell().

sys_shell("c:\mypath\batch.bat",2) will run the batch batch file, minimized

sys_shell("c:\windows\system32\command.com mstsc /v:{"+computer+"} /console",2) or similar should work as well.

Where would I put that code that you mention above, at this point I am trying it with on push.

In the script genie I have input in the Program name C:\Windows\System32\mstsc.exe
In the Command line /v:{"+name+"} /console

But it does not fill in the name of the computer, it only gives me {}

In my first post I asked whether you were having trouble with the button or the code for it. You seemed to answer that you needed help with the code.

Do you have the button? If not, here is a link to a video of how it is done.

I have the button, but when I click on it the script comes up with the proper box but the name of the computer is not in it.
So the remote desktop box pops up, but then it asks for the computer name.
the video does not show me how to start another program. It shows how to make a button, and thank you for that.

Try changing the command line to

unquote2("/v:{"+name+"} /console")

Edit: That doesn't work.

I think you will have to convert the action script to inline xbasic and edit it to

sys_shell("C:\Windows\System32\mstsc.exe "+"/v:{"+name+"} /console",1)

I really do not know much about programming. When I replace the ommand you tell me to it comes back with the error "Argument is incorrect data type"

The data is character.

Works fine here.

name = "smathews"

? "C:\Windows\System32\mstsc.exe "+"/v:{"+name+"} /console"
= "C:\Windows\System32\mstsc.exe /v:{smathews} /console"




sys_shell("C:\Windows\System32\mstsc.exe "+"/v:{"+name+"} /console",1)

The last line brings up a dialog (here, anyway) that indicates "Connecting"
"Connecting to {smathews}"

This fails and I get the message shown in the screenshot. (The button on the form.)

sys_shell("C:\Windows\System32\mstsc.exe "+"/v:{"+alltrim(browseobjectname:columnobjectname.value)+"} /console",1)

Where browseobjectname is the objectname of the browse on the form.
:columnobjectname is the objectname of the column in the browse that holds the computer name.

Try the new attachment, "Main" form.

This is a simple database that should show all the steps you need to do what you want. It works on XP.

OK when I click on teh button, it start to look for {}, and of course it cannot find it, this is the code I have in:
sys_shell("C:\Windows\System32\mstsc.exe "+"/v:{"+name+"} /console",1)

If you guys could take a look I would appreciate it. When I look at the embeded browse it says
