Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Browse view on fetch_last

    I couldn't find any literature on this issue. I have an estimate form with an embedded browse view that lists the names of customers on the invoice in date order. If I want to delete one of the estimate records, I click on that estimate and then in a custom toolbar I have the following code connected to the delete estimate button:
    Code:
    'Delete record in current form at parent level.
    topparent.delete_record()

    'Go to first record in current form at parent level.
    topparent.fetch_first()

    'Refresh data in current form at parent level.
    'Can only resynch data in View mode, so save record first to be sure that layout is in View mode.
    topparent.Commit()
    topparent.fetch_last()
    topparent.Resynch()
    topparent.Refresh_Layout()
    This code does the trick in deleting the record and going to the last record in the table. The problem is that in the embedded browse only the last record line shows after the deletion is completed. I then have to go to the slide bar and click on it to get to see all of the remaining records listed.

    Right now I only have five sample records and the embedded browse is set up to view about 15 records at one time. So, if I go to the last record in the table, shouldn't I be able to see all of the embedded records at one time, with focus on the last record? Did I do something incorrectly with the code (generated via Action Script)?

    Thanks for any suggestions....

    Pete;

    As a long shot try topparent:browse.delete_record(.t.) or browse.delete_record(.t.) instead of topparent.delete.

      James:
      The deleting of the record works fine (it deletes both parent and child). It is the browse viewing of the remaining records I have difficulty with. I would like to have focus on the last record in my table set, but I want to see the previous records in the browse without having to use the slide on the side. For some reason only the last record initially appears in the browse view, although the others are above it out of view. As I said, I have room for about 15 rows and only have five records. Thus, all five should show and focus should be on the last record, if my understanding of the code is correct.

        Pete;

        Correct. I understand what you're saying. It's just that I have always had, and still do, the same problem your talking about when deleteing a record in a browse with topparent.delete instead of browse.delete. The records in the browse fly-away. So to speak.
        Just a thought. May not be relevant to your issue.

          Pete,

          I have read a few posts by people with the same issue, some recent and some quite some time ago....I thought this issue was fixed in v9. There were work-a-rounds mentioned I believe. If you can't find the relevant threads let me know and I'll have a look.

            Took a nap and came back to this. I tried working this issue out in Alpha Sports and there was no problem with the browse showing correctly, so there is obviously something wrong with what I did and not with the browse.

            Thanks for the suggestions. I will try and clean things up later today.
