Date issue

I have to copy records from table 1 to table 2

I have to take the date (08/07/2008 10:39:00 00 am) from the field I named "time" which was not a good idea, and place it in (080705) "yymmdd" format in second table named transacationid.

I keep trying to start different methods and get stopped because of the fields name of time.

I believe I have to convert this field into a variable and then adjust it but am at a loss.

A quick thought would be great

Not sure what this might mean.

I only have v5 available at the moment but given

time = now()
? time
=08/25/2008 10:09:14 34 pm

? right(cdate(ctod(left(time("",time),10))),6)
= "080825"

ok that would work based on your example however I am confusing myself with the fact that my field name is time.

That works but I have to convert that to character value too.

time=cdate(time,YYMMDD) does not work

I am confusing myself with the "time" statement which is the field name unfortunately.

The cdate() function only takes one argument. Either a date (type D) or a date-time (type T).

time = now()
? time
= 26/08/2008 02:19:56 49 pm  'Aussie date format

?cdate(time)        'where time is your field
= "20080826"

'use the right() function , as Stan did, to get the right six characters
right(cdate(time),6)

' you can also use the time() function and specify a format like so:
?[COLOR="Red"]time([/COLOR]"yyMMdd",[COLOR="Blue"]time[/COLOR][COLOR="Red"])[/COLOR]   'red time is the time() function and the blue one is your field
= "080826"

how you actually address your field called 'time' will depend on the context of the expression.

I had to use the time

Simplify:

dim time as t
time=now()
?time
= 08/26/2008 07:12:50 20 am
?time("yyMMdd",time)
= "080826"

The name "time" for a field or a variable is inconsequential, but not a good idea.
