Variables

Hello guys,

I'm very new to this, so please excuse my ignorance.

I have assigned a variable to a drop down box, that are client names. I have a job name form, mailshop form and an inventory form.

My problem is: I can select the first client name from the drop down list, and it shows up on all 3 forms correctly. When I go to record 2 and select the client name from the drop down box, it replace record #1 Client name.

Some how I think I need to save each records as I go. But the variable keeps being replaced when I go to the next record.

Any ideas?

Instead, make the table field on the form a dropdown box. All you are doing currently is changing the value of the variable. The record will be saved automatically when you move to another record.

Another thought is to look at the AlphaSports sample, Invoice form. The dropdown/lookup for the customer_id field there is controlled by the invoice_header field rules for that field.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I have the table defined as a drop down tree. But when I select the client's name for record2, it replaces the client name on record 1.

It's about to drive me crazy.

But you have the variable on the form, not the table field. At least that's what you indicated.

The changing of the value of the variable while viewing a record has nothing to do with storing the variable's current value in a record just as the variable itself has nothing to do with your table.

When you view a variable on a form and set its value it will stay that value while you view all records until you change it. Then it stays that value until you change it.

Examine the mentioned invoice form. No variables involved.
