Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Calendar missing in "Settings"

    I am lost. My calendar choices are missing in view/settings/preferences. Does anyone know how I did this?

    It is available in my Alpha versions 5,6,7, but no longer in nine. I am running version 9, build 1634 build 3197. See attached jpgs.

    Thanks in advance,
    Joe

    The calendar setting are in a folder called CSS in the a5v9 program directory.

    Make sure that the CSS folder is present and that it has all the folders under it that outline the various aspects of the calendar.

    I erroneously deleted that folder one time in version 7 and the calendar choices were not available. I copied the CSS folder and it sub folders from my installation disk back to the program directory and the calendar choices were back.

    FWIW

      Re: Calendar missing in "Settings"

      Tom, Thanks for the reply.
      I have looked and even reinstalled the run patch and still no calendar choices are available in version 9. ???? I am lost.

      This morning, I also uninstalled all versions, edited the registry to remove all traces of all versions using ccleaner and regsupreme. Then I did a reinstall including patches. Still no calendar choices even with the sample databases. I am running WinXP SP3 on an Athlon 64X2 6400+ 3.22GHz with 4gigs or Ram. As well, my directory looks similar to yours.
      Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

          Re: Calendar missing in "Settings"

          Mike, I have the CSS folder & a subfolder that has calendar icons in it (see latest screenshot). I am not sure exactly, what to look for. After a clean install, it should be there, whatever it is, should it not? I have not moved, deleted, replaced anything, so I do not really know just what to look for, or what is going on. What should I be looking for in this folder? Does it appear that I am missing anything based on my new screenshot?
          Thanks for all of your help.

            Joe,
            Only ideas I have now are to try an earlier version of Alpha--you can simply install an earlier patch over your existing. Your current patch/download could be corrupted.

            Or hopefully someone else will chime in that has the same specs you have
            (WinXP SP3 on an Athlon 64X2) as SP3 or the 64 bit could be possible causes as well.

              Re: Calendar missing in "Settings"

              This works for me in all versions
              Code:
              date1 = date()

              result=ui_dlg_box("Calendar Control",<<%dlg%

              {font=Tahoma,8}
              {units=f}

              {ysize=2}

              {lf};

              Date:| [%P=A5_GETDATEHTML( "",dtoc(date1), "WinXP" )%.30date1 ]

              {lf};

              <*15&OK>;

              %dlg%)
              "WinXp" is the name of the CSS stylesheet used.

              But then again:
              Basic research is what I am doing when I don't know what I am doing and to steal ideas from one person is plagiarism; to steal from many is research!

                Re: Calendar missing in "Settings"

                I am opening this thread again since I just started using V9 and I too cannot find the calendar in the preferences setting.

                I was originally a party to this thread and of course my suggestion was that the CSS folder must be present.

                Well, now I find that I cannot change the style of the popup calendar because the settting is missing from the settings genie - see attached thumbnail of the v9 settings>preferences.

                The calendar would come after the Autoexec script preference but it is not there. The CSS folder is where it should be and contains all the style sheets for the calendar.

                I am a later starter with version 9 (waiting for version 10)

                Am I missing something. On all my date fields, the calendar pops up properly but it is the default calendar.

                  I have Version 9 with latest patch and my settings are identical to Tom's, ie no calendar.

                    Re: Calendar missing in "Settings"

                    I have not had the calendar choices in version 9 and I would suspect others do not have them either. I can open up the same database with version 7 and it is there, the control (see attached screenshot). In version 9 (bottom pic), it is not. It's as simple as that. Not enough "squeaks" to get the grease, so it goes unchanged. Maybe it will be fixed in A5V10.

                      Re: Calendar missing in "Settings"

                      Have received the following e-mail from Selwyn

                      the calendar you are showing has replaced the html based calendar that was in v8. this calendar is completely done in a5 using xbasic.
                      so styles are no longer applicable.

                      if you want the old style calendar, you have to write your own xbasic and call this function:

                      ui_get_date_calendar("","","airport")

                      passing in a non null value for the last parameter (the style).

                      if you leave this blank, it uses the newer v9 calendar.

                      Not enough "squeaks" to get the grease, so it goes unchanged. Maybe it will be fixed in A5V10
                      I guess no one cares that the calendar preference for style has been removed - and you must use xbasic.

                        Re: Calendar missing in "Settings"

                        To get the calendar to come up using a calendar style sheet do the following

                        The calendar popup is a super control so you must use the onpush event for the date field to get the new style

                        Open your form in design mode

                        Right click on the date field that you want to change the style of the calendar

                        Select events then onpush

                        enter the following code in the on push event for that field - the code below set OrangeCrush as the calendar style

                        Code:
                        yourfield.value=ui_get_date_calendar("","", "OrangeCrush")
                        Save the form.

                        Now when you click on the supercontrol calendar icon, the new style will show.

                        Just for information
