Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Alpha Screen Corruption

I have had the small square appear previously (labelled 2) but not the bar along the bottom (labelled 1). Then it vanished and I thought no more of it, thinking that an Alpha patch had fixed the issue, however it has come back again today all of a sudden and it is now accompanied by the large white bar.

Has anyone else had this problem (see image attached) or have any suggestions as to what may be causing it? Sometimes re-starting Alpha gets rid of it but just recently it hasn't!

It may not be anything to do with Alpha at all!? I am running this on a slow works PC (XP Pro) with only 512mb of ram which is also shared with the graphics processor. I have a much faster PC at home which I can't remember having this problem on which is running (Vista). Has anyone else seen this - if so what PC are you running Alpha on?

    Further info.:

The long bar has now vanished again, but no matter what I do I cannot get rid of the small square in the bottom right of the screen. That includes shutting down the computer and re-booting.

Update: The long bar is back, but only if I start Alpha with the window maximised, if I open it with a smaller window it doesn't appear???

Looks like it could be a screen refresh problem. I packed some tables as this brings up a small bar along the bottom roughly in the same place as the white bar. Once the packing operation had completed the white bar disappeared again.

The long white bar is now coming up every time I start Alpha.

IS anyone at Alpha looking into this problem? I have had no response to my bug report.

It seems to have been caused by the latest patch, I didn't have this problem before!

I have had the small square for a long time now and ignored it, the long bar appears intermittently and I always run in maximized view

              Lance,

I got this first occuring two patches ago and thought the previous to last patch had cured it (it seemed to go away on my PC anyway - perhaps just coincidence) however after installation of the latest patch the large bar started to come up as well as the little square in the bottom right of the Alpha screen. To start with it was infrequent but now it is showing both the large bar and the small square each time I start Alpha. However, if i run my mouse over the main menu form the large bar disappears. I cannot get rid of the small square!!!

I run Alpha Five maximised, but the forms are not. See screenshot in first post for example.

Just closed and re-opened Alpha 4 times for a test and only the small square (bottom right) was visible. Alpha maximized and all forms (mostly MDI dialogs) maximized. XP pro (not Vista of course). Dont think I have seen the long bar for a few days!!

                  Re: Alpha Screen Corruption

Lance, this sounds like a problem displaying the "Status Bar". Have you tried unchecking "Status Bar" on the "View" menu of the Alpha Five control panel?

                    Tom,

The long bar on mine which does look like the status bar mysteriously disapears if I move my mouse over the form. However I cannot get rid of the small box (looks like a tick box) in the bottom right hand corner.

If I uncheck view status bar the problem dissapears, but then so does the status bar, when I re check view status bar the small box comes back again. The status bar is being corrupted but why???

Alastair, is "Status Bar" checked or unchecked in your "View" menu?

                        Tom,

Most of the time I have it checked but to try your suggestion I unchecked it, the status bar disappeared along with the corruption, however, when I turn the status bar back on the corruption comes back.

                          Tom,

Does that mean you, and possibly others are not seeing this?

Alastair, I suppose that means the issue is with the Status Bar, so we've narrowed it down a bit, right? Suggest you submit a "Status Bar" error report through formal channels.

Lance, yes. I don't have the problem running Build 1722_3208 on either of my XP Pro SP3 boxes. Have tested with AlphaSports, and with a custom app that uses maximized forms throughout.

I wonder if this is a video display issue, unique to some setting of your video display adapter ? Are you using "normal font size" in the "Display Properties" of your desktop?

Was using large fonts, changed to normal fonts and still had the little square box in bottom right corner
