I am trying to add a pie chart onto an existing form to display data from eight or more fields containing data from the same database.
As I page through records on the form, I would like to keep the chart visible while displaying the corresponding data from each record.
I have edited the sample FetchPie script for use on a similar form in my application, as this script allows the �onfetch� event to page through records displaying the corresponding chart data exactly as required, but when I create a Simple Chart using action scripting and the simple chart genie using an Alpha.dbf table with the multiple fields, single row option to display my data, I cannot get it to work the same way?.
Ideally, if I could add my other field criteria to my modified FetchPie script, then this would be great, but I have no idea how to do this.
I would also like to select my own colours for the chart segments if this is possible.

Fred,

You would probably get a better response if you posted a copy of your database. It is very difficult trying to explain how to do something when no details are provided. Also provide instructions as to what form and what fields you are talking about within you db.

Hi Bill, thanks for your comments. I am pleased to say that I have now succesfully managed to modify the sample FetchPie script to work with my application. However, I would be very interested in your thoughts on how to specify my own colours for the SimpleChart segments.

Hi Fred,
I have no clue as far as anything to do with an Action Script in order to so this as version 8 is what I am using and Action Script for SimpleChart must be a new feature in version 9.

That said, if converted to xbasic you would use these object attributes to change the segment colors--directly from the SimpleChart help file. It would have to be made to fit your scenario.

MyPieChart.ChartData(1).FillStyle = scFillModeGraduated
MyPieChart.ChartData(1).FillColor1 = RGB(255, 255, 0)
MyPieChart.ChartData(1).FillColor2 = RGB(0, 0, 255)

Fred, with the Lite version of SimpleChart, I do not think you have the ability to control the pie slice colors. But I am not sure about this. I tried this and got an error (function is not recognized):

chartGen.ChartData(1).Fillcolor1 = RGB(255,255,0)

I do not see how in the FetchPie example you could do this. What I see in the example is that you have a "chartGen" collection that has values for desc and price for each slice by using a line like this:

chartGen.ChartData.Add(desk,price,0)

What I do not know is what the third parameter might mean.

The third parameter is for fill type. 0 = auto solid fill, 1= solid fill, 2 Auto Graduated, 3=graduated. There are 3 more additional fill types with the full version of simplechart. (Image fill, image stretch and image tile)

Presumably, I believe you should be able to use 1 as the third parameter followed by a color code. This works in bar charts, but does not seem to work in piecharts. Check out this : http://msgboard.alphasoftware.com/al...ad.php?t=73700


It is an Excellent resource for bar charts. Back to the problem. You should be able to set the color of the pie piece, at least according to the documentation, but this does not seem to work. I have the full version of Simplechart at my office and won;t be back till Monday, so I will try to confirm whether it works in the full version.

Hi,
There is something quirky in the use of this....I have a function that I have not had the time to fully complete for a project I am working on that generates the Bar, Line, and Pie charts simply my using its parameters. I have a feeling that when the auto-color fill is not used for solid or graduated, you have to use the "long" way to generate the Pie Chart, filling in all the various parameters for each slice.

And yes the colors for the first user choices that Bill pointed out should be able to be used in the Lite version according to the help file for SimpleChart. The others not mentioned are only in the Full version.

If I have time this weekend I will try and see if this is the case.

When using ChartData.add, in the solid mode, you must also pass the parameterers for Hidden and exploded as well as the color inorder for this to work.

for example:

Chart.ChartData.add("bill",25,1,.f.,.t.,vred)

The first parameter "bill' = desc
secone parameter 25 = value,
third parameter 1 = fill mode (solid)
4th parameter .f. = hidden
5th parameter .t. = Exploded
6th parmeter vRed = color of pie piece

This is true of the Lite version as well as the Full Version of SimpleChart
