Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Alpha with Mac

    Anyone using alpha with Mac?
    Any performance problems?
    Thanks.

    Re: Alpha with Mac

Yes I changed my Notebook to MacBook a month ago.
Alpha V8 has been running fine with no performance problems or other issues.
    Using XP Pro SP3.

There are 2 ways I have tried Alpha:
    (1) Using Bootcamp - a dual boot system which comes with Mac OS.
    (2) Using Parallels - a Virtual Machine that runs Windows within Mac OS. http://www.parallels.com/products/desktop/

Surprisingly the Parallels solution seems to work just as fast or faster than a separate boot using Bootcamp.

The reasons for choosing Parallels are that one can backup a complete Windows disc image using Acronis True Image as well as partition the Windows disc.
(Acronis True Image and Acronis Disc Director and 1 year Kaspersky Internet Security are included with Parallels.)

Making a Disc Image backup from a Bootcamp partition is apparently not easy - there is a freeware program that does an Image backup. Not tried.

I'm very pleased to be using a Mac and able to continue with (a new copy of) XP, rather than buying a Windows notebook and be forced to use Vista.

May I ask if or why you are thinking of using a Mac?

      Robin:
      Thanks for your input.
      As to why Mac?
Just take a look at the newest Mac monitor! It is something to behold. Out of this world. I can't get it out of my mind. Step aside Michaelangelo, DaVenci, Van Gough and all the rest.. It is a masterpeice.

But that's not the only reason and if my computer wasn't acting up, I would elaborate further. I haven't decided yet, just prospecting.

I think any Mac user would know the difference between the real thing (Mac) and the cheap imitation (Bill Gates).

The owner of my company have been threatening me with converting to macs for a couple months now...I just dont want to leave my home build pc's behind, they dont have the same problems as people who are using dell's, gateway's etc. I did manage to get it through his head though that I would not be caught dead using anything less than a Mac Pro....so we'll see how that goes. :-)
