Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Filter Emb Browse By Express

I have on a Form an embedded browse by expression. Click buttonA BrowseA is loaded, click buttonB BrowseB is loadded etc... My problem is I cant figure out a way to filter the loaded browse. From the threads I read on the subject the browse inherits the parent filter. However when I try to insert in the parent form properties the following expression:
Case (var->Browsename="BrowseA", filterexpression1, var->Browsename="BrowseB", filterexpression2, var->Browsename="BrowseC", filterexpression3), in the expression builder A5 accepts the expression, but when I click on OK and exit the expression builder A5 displays and error message saying Expression is not valid.

    Hi Gaby,

If you select Form Properties tab Filter/Order, you can select each browse and set the filter there.

Gaby, there's a big difference between a single browse object that is filtered to show different records (i.e. multple views using single browse object), and multiple browse objects which are each hard coded to show only specific records (single views using multiple browse objects). Which scenario are you using?

Re: Filter Emb Browse By Express

        Hello Tom:
It is a single browse object (multiple prebuilt browses using a single browse object); the emb. browse object on the layout displays 1 browse at a time (BrowseA or BrowseB or Browsec all based on the same table but showing different fields). My objective is to create a base filter for each one. I can add a script to filter each browse when it loads but the problem is the user can easily unfilter it by clicking on the show all button.
I tried to create in the form's Properties a conditional base filter saying:
if BrowseA is loaded apply filterexpression1, if BrowseB is loaded apply filterepression2, etc... but A5 did not accept the formula.

Sorry. I don't see how this can ever happen, and don't understand you. Please show us the scripts that change the browse display. Maybe that will tell me what I'm missing, cause I don't think multiple pre-built browses can use a single browse object. -- tom

Actually, that is the better alternative and if you are concerned about a user "unfiltering"the browse, you can:
a-Disable the "Show All" icon, or
            b-Have a custom toolbar.

You should have a custom toolbar regardless. I am sure you don't want the users to have access to icons like "Design" for instance.

              Tom:
I am pretty sure she is referring to the part of browse properties where you select browse based on an expression.

Please see attached. Open MainForm and use the mutistate button at bottom of the form.

Re: Filter Emb Browse By Express

Place this in the OnInit event of the form
                  Code:
'to filter to the first choice of the Multistate button
                  topparent:tables:workers.filter_expression = "Reclocator = 'AA'"
                  topparent:tables:workers.order_expression = "Familyname"
                  topparent:tables:workers.query()
And this in the OnChange event for the multistate button.
                  Code:
                  topparent:tables:workers.filter_expression = "Reclocator = '" + right(this.value,2) + "'"
                  topparent:tables:workers.order_expression = "Familyname"
                  topparent:tables:workers.query()
The actual filters are just my guess.
