Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    __A5_record__

This index name has shown up automatically in a few tables recently, so I suspect it may be the result of a new build of A5v9? Has anyone else seen this or know what triggers its creation? The order expression is recno(), so I don't see the point.

    Bill,

I have only one table in my system and that index showed up in that table. I don't know when or why.

Here too...but in my case it has been truncated to 10 characters __A5_Recor

Yes it's in a lot but not all of my tables, non truncated, and is always indexed on recno()

Here also, except sometimes it is __a5_recor and sometimes __a5_record__.

Same here, 4 out of 5 tables. Three truncated, two __a5_record__

              Re: __A5_record__

              Hi guys,

As far as I can tell by dumping the binary, this text is visible in a5engine.dll, and has been in at least version 8. So the code is not necessarily new. Also, the indication of a truncated version of the name implies that it is field rule related, as opposed to dictionary related, as it would probably not be truncated if a dictionary name extension were present.

Doesn't really tell us much, just some clues. Maybe you can figure out the rule type that is generating it.

                Re: __A5_record__

I don't have field rules in the tables where the index exists, neither short nor long version.

                  Re: __A5_record__

If you remove the _A5Record_ index (including removing the cdx file) and open a form with that table as the parent and navigate using the form, nothing happens.

OTOH if you remove the cdx file and restore the indexes without the _A5Record_ index and then view the default browse, the _A5Record_ index reappears.

This happens in tables with and without field rules.

Like others, I've got instances where it appears as above and also with a double underscore to begin and truncated.

It's a required system index that is usually not visible. Selwyn says that it will be filtered out of the list in the next build (I guess).

                      Re: __A5_record__

It happens if you open a table and resort it.

I just went and checked a bunch of tables brought from v7. Only one had the added index. after i opened a browse and sorted on some field and checked again the index tag was there.

It also seems to happen the first record you add.

I hope it is filtered out. Especially considering that some of my tables have multiple instances of the index.

That is odd. Is it one full name, __A5_Record__ and one truncated name, __A5_Recor?

I am trying to add a few new fields to this table and it goes to about 57% and hangs up then a pop-up window "Out of Memory".
I had problems with the same table last month when it erased all caluclated fields in the field rules but that is not happening now. Thank God.
The only thing different is now it get the memory error and the __A5_Recor and order experession RECNO() added by it self.
Any ideas? I updated all indexes and packed it. I am running the newest patch file.
It will not let me add the new fields. I even added on to try out and same.
This table was created in 2001.
                              Thank you
