Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Calendar control?

I'd like to design some sort of appointment scheduler using a calendar so I can drag and drop appointments. I'd need it to connect to a database and allow me to double click a time and enter appointment information. Is this possible? I know the supplied calendar feature is a bit limited, are there third party ones I can use? I was using a ComponentOne calendar in Visual Studio 2008, is there any way to use that?

I am working with CodeJock's Xtreme Calendar Pro control and have got it half to work. Take a look at their Access sample for how to create your own Outlook! This is what I am trying to replicate with Alpha.

      Re: Calendar control?

You are working with Xtreme Calendar within Alpha Five or just trying to replicate it? I'm just getting into A5 right now and I don't know how to really code anything, or if it's even going to work out for me. Are there any calendars that will work right off the bat with A5 aside from their own?

Is there even a bundled calendar with A5 or do you have to buy the one on their site to get anything?

EDIT: Just found the calendar. It is very basic.

        Ted,

I have no interest in re-inventing the wheel. I want a professional Outlook style calendar out of the box.

Attached is a Word document showing how the CodeJock control is working. It is very much a work in process.

I'm encountering troubles with methods, not properties. You may be interested to know that with the setting of one style property, this calendar can be displayed as Outlook style, Windows XP style, Windows VISTA, etc.

To see the real capabilities of this control, download the sample Microsoft Access Application at http://www.codejock.com/downloads/samples/calendar.asp.

Yep, I did check the demo out. The calendar seems to do what I need, just need to find out how to do something like that in A5. Are there any web sites with tutorials on how to do basic XBasic coding or get buttons working or anything? The help file is a little less than optimal for me.

            Ted,

Just open the Microsoft Access demo.

            Open frmCalendar
            Click on the [Design] icon
Click on the calendar control, then right click
            Click on Build event...

This will expose all the Visual Basic code that you will need to convert to XBasic.

Ok then excuse my ignorance, but I'm confused, because all I got was an exe file and that's all I see in the link. Even if I could see the VB code it wouldn't help much without getting a decent grasp on the XBasic code first. That's why I was wondering if there were any free tutorials out there step by step aside from the "Help" menu, since they assume you know some things about it already.

                  Ted,

If you'd like, I'll walk you through this. All you have to do is download the trial from CodeJock's web site.

Send me a private message with your phone number. Between 6 pm and 9 pm PST works best for me or this weekend is fine go. I'm working on a project in California so I'm on Pacific time.

This exactly what I would have expected from A5 and Codejock. It looks great. I'm curious if this will work with a web app as well. Has anyone tried that?

                      Jeff,

Unfortunately, we are like wolves crying in the wilderness. I've only got this to partially work with Alpha Five.

Question: If Alpha Five provided easy to use email functionality, wouldn't you think they would provide easy to use calendar functionality as well?

                      Email + Calendar = Outlook.

Without this capability, is it any surprise that Alpha's CRM product never got off the ground?

                        Hi All

I'll add my 2 cents worth. I am also not for re-inventing the wheel. Why not get Alpha to properly integrate with Outlook Calendar. I am sure Microsoft Outlook is still going to be with us for a while.:)

                          Peter,

I really have a problem with applications that constantly require synchronization and refreshes which is exactly what you're asking for with an Alpha/Outlook interface.

The very weakest CRM applications out there attempt to do just that.

The better approach is for Alpha to do with a calendar what it did with email and allow us to be free of Outlook.

                            Hello

Could someone tell me whether the CodeJock's Xtreme Calendar Pro works with A5V9 please?

All I want is the facility to create a calander interface for our workshop repair system and be able to allocate engineers incoming jobs and a time frame to do teh job?

If so what are the limitations in terms of the numbers

                            number of engineers
                            number of jobs
units of time within any given day
                            appointments per day

Are there any issues when dragging and dropping?

Maybe someone from Alpha could release a video showing how to use the CodeJock's Xtreme Calendar Pro

In all the noise about V10 web functionality it would confirm to us that they haven't forgotten the premise that environemnt will always be secondary to core functionality.
