Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Can't Find a5v8 library to xfer to a5v9

    Dear Folks:

I tried using a5_getapplicationdatafolder() and a5.get_exe_path() as per a listing elsewhere on the Forum to find my a5v8 code library.

Copied the contents of the files to the equivalent a5v9 subfolders - my a5v9 devel copy doesn't see them.

If I use the <add library> tool in a5v9 I can navigate to the two locations the two a5 functions identified - but nothing is there in the navigation window to import.

    Where am I going wrong?

    Best wishes,
    Mel Thompson

Mel, I'm not familiar with the functions you're trying to use. Would you mind backing up and telling us what you're doing from a big picture perspective. Do you need access to the vers 8 libraries repeatedly, or is this a one time thing, for example? What are you trying to accomplish?

      Dear Tom:

I am trying to permanently transfer my extensive a5v8 library to a5v9.

      So far, no joy.

      Best wishes,
      Mel T.

You're probably way ahead of me on this, so forgive my ignorance if this is a stupid question. Are you talking about code libraries? I've always assumed that the compiled libraries could simply be copied over... and that raw scripts & functions can be exported, and then imported. I must be missing something, so perhaps someone more knowledgable on this than me will chime in to lend a hand.

Re: Can't Find a5v8 library to xfer to a5v9

          Dear Tom:

What I am referring to is the "library" of saved code snippets that alpha allows you to create.

When you have the code editor open and you click on "Task List" you will see an option for "Code Library".

There's a menu option on the Code Library dialog that is supposed to let you import your a5v8 code library into a5v9. When I select that and navigate to either of the two possible subfolders that should contain the a5v8 code library, there's nothing to select.

          Best wishes,
          Mel Thompson

            I don't see it.

Are you talking about the option to import V5 Code library? I thought that was for Alpha Five vers 5... Why do you want to use that with a V8 library? What am I missing?

I had the same problem back when. I seem to remember there was a trick to this (at least in v8 or v7), but I can't remember what the trick was. Sorry.

              Tom: see attached image...
