Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Help with Tavle sum (Example included)

I think I am doing something wrong.

    TABLESUM("account" , "Account->Record_Id = "+quote(Record_Id),"Total")

    Is this corrct?
    I get invalid expression.

Total is a columin in Main Table.
Account = NAme of the table.
Record_id = Column in Account table.
Account->Record_ID = Column in Account table.

Someone did one of this example and it works there but not on mine documents.

    I am just very fustrated.

    Hi,

Can you post a sample of you application. To show some code copied from somewhere else and tell us that it does not work for you could be for a number of reasons which we could only guess at.

        Hi,

Have a look at the operations and the result in Main Table. Is this what you wanted?

You can set the Post to Replace.

          Monatin,

Keith's example shows an easy two step sequence for updating the total_store_account in your Main table. He uses a "summarize" operation to create a new table "Totals". He then uses a "post" operation to transfer the computed totals to the corresponding records in the Main table.

Once the initial totals are stored (in "Main") for each "record_id" you can use a simple "Post" field rule (defined in the "Account" table) to "add" new store_money to Main when new records are entered in Account.

If you need something else describe both the desired end result, and the context (setting) in which the computation is needed. For example, if you didn't want to use a post field rule you could put a button on the set based form and have it run a short script to sum the field values and then write the total to the current Main table record.

I like the idea of summation! The only problem is when posted to main table it doubles it eveytime I do the post. Any idea?

Rather than adding the data I did a replacement and it seems to work right from the Total_Table.

Is there anyway I can get alpha not showing the store total table after the operation?

What do you mean by this question? Who do you not want to see this table? If you mean in a Runtime environment then the Control Panel would not normally be visible, so no tables would be visible.

                  Monatin,
Unsure if I am guessing correctly, but....
When you run an operation from a script there is an option tab that shows a checkbox to run silent.

I do not use runtime environment yet but Alpha basic v9 on all machine. So, it would be nice to hide the table.

Thanks Keith, and everyone who poseted help!
