Hello!
I'm a long-time user of Approach (AKA Lotus Approach) that is moving to Alpha Five v9 a bunch of small, internal corporate applications I've built and maintained since the first version of Approach, well over a decade ago.
One of the things that I and my users are very used to with Approach is being able to type search criteria directly into a form (in one or more fields), hitting the enter key, and having Approach go out and retrieve the appropriate records. When this works properly, a "set" of records is retrieved and by using the page-up and page-down keys (or the VCR-type control) one can browse through all of the found records. Pressing the "all records" button simply disintegrates the set of found records.
I've discovered Alpha Five's "find by form" function. At the outset, this appears to be just what I was looking for. However, it only finds the first record that matches the find criteria. If I page down from there, it displays subsequent records in the database, not in the found set. I can continue to go to Find -> Find Next Record - but that's quite convoluted!
Is there no built-in control that'll do what I want, or a template from which to build such a control? Incidentally, we're going to want to potentially search based on multiple fields and it could potentially be in just about any field that we're searching. (Our databases are relatively small, however.)
Cheers!
Ian
