Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

How do I correct the amount of $16.50 from being carried over to $17.00?

    Greetings,

How do I correct the amount of $16.50 from being carried over to $17.00 in the same field? Anytime I place an amount of $16.50, $16.25, or $16.10 it carries it over to $17.00. What do I need to do? I thank you for your help.

    Regards,

    Pat

Don't recall ever seeing that before.

Check the behavior of the "default form" for the table. (Right Click table name in A5 control panel, choose open default form). If data entry using the default form is ok then that's a good sign the trouble you're seeing is in your custom form. Otherwise, look to the table structure and table field rules.

This message board supports uploading files, so you can zip a copy of your database and upload it for us to study. Use the Go Advanced button that is available while editing a reply post. If you do this, please include directions for us to follow to find and trigger the fault.

      Hi Pat,

Check the number of decimal places in table and the form displaying the receiving data.

        Hi Keith,

I don't see where I could set the decimal place on the table I named fees.dbf (see zip attachment)? I know I set it as numeric, but where do I go from there? I thank you again for your help.

        Regards,

        Pat

Pat, the width you specify for each numeric field in your table structure must include room for the decimal point and any trailing decimals you need. You have no decimals specified on any of your numeric fields. Alpha thinks you are only going to store integers, since that's how you've defined the table.

          See attached image.

All your numeric fields are defined with zero decimal places.

Right click on the table name in the control panel and choose Edit Structure.
            There can be only one.

              Greetings Tom and Stan,

I have used your suggestions and I wish to thank you both. It is now working correctly. Again, thank you.

Remember that the decimal point = 1 width integer
                100.00 = width 6

                But then again:
Basic research is what I am doing when I don't know what I am doing and to steal ideas from one person is plagiarism; to steal from many is research!
