Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Short time or any Time

Can someone please tell me why time functions are so compicated - or maybe it is just me.

I need to get a shortime value into a character base field (or variable then into the field) so it looks like a real time.

I Tried CShortime() but that is not the format I need to see it in - or maybe I am just missing how to reformat it back into a legible time.

I am on the ledge and heading off - Please help!

    Thanks
    Louis

        Hi Louis,

Have you looked at the Time() function? This will give you a charater layout of the time.

            Did you try this?

            x=time("h:m:am",now())
            ?x
            = "10:28:pm"

            Excuse smiley.

Yes - it works fine for that scenario - That is how I was trying different formats.

what I need though is to grab it from a field that already has a short time format with a time in it.

It may be easier to upload a sample demonstration of what it is you have with notes detailing what it is you want.

                  Code:
                  ShortTime_Extract( yourfieldname, "h")+":"+ShortTime_Extract( yourfieldname, "m")+" "+IF(shortTime_extract( yourfieldname,"h") > 11, "pm", "am")

Re: Short time or any Time

I apologize if I was not clear - I can get the time into the field but it looks like this:
time('h:m:s',Timeof) this is the first part I need it in this field also it works.

'10:05 pm' is in the field with shortime format (above) when I put it into the character field I need it in it shows as '22:5:2 '

Stan - I like your way but it gives me 22:5 pm how do I convert it to say 10:05 pm

You'll have to check the hours portion for > 12 and subtract 12 if so.
                      Code:
                      alltrim(str(if(ShortTime_Extract( yourfieldname, "h")>12,ShortTime_Extract( yourfieldname, "h"),ShortTime_Extract( yourfieldname, "h")-12)))
You'll have to pad the minutes with a zero to a length of 2.

                      Code:
                      padl(alltrim(str(shortTime_extract(yourfieldname,"m"))),2,"0")
                      There can be only one.

10:05 pm may be what you have the short time field displaying as but that is not the value that is stored in the field. See the interactive session below.
It looks like 10:38:13 66 am
