Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Calculated field and table

    Hi,

    I have problem with my script, I'm not able to sote in a table the calucated field from a form. (form based on a set)

    This is the script:

    'Set 'Value' property of multiple objects in Form 'frm_Invoice' .
    DIM form_name as c
    if is_object(topparent.this) then
    form_name = topparent.name()+".this"
    else
    form_name = ""
    end if

    DELETE expression_result

    expression_result = eval("Tbl_Invoice_Totali->Gran_Total",form_name)
    parentform:Grand_total.value = expression_result
    DELETE expression_result
    expression_result = eval("Tbl_Invoice_Totali->Tot_Vat",form_name)
    parentform:Amt_tax.value = expression_result
    DELETE expression_result
    expression_result = eval("Tbl_Invoice_Totali->Tot_Discount",form_name)
    parentform:Amt_disc.value = expression_result
    DELETE expression_result
    expression_result = eval("Tbl_Invoice_Totali->Totali",form_name)
    parentform:Total.value = expression_result
    DELETE expression_result
    expression_result = eval("Tbl_Invoice_Totali->Invoice_Number",form_name)
    parentform:Invoice2.value = expression_result

    I insert this script onto the 'CanSave EVENT' of my form .

    and this is the error that I receive :

    Script:CanSave line:16
    parentform:Grand_total.value = expression_result
    Field types don't match

    I have check the fields and they are the same type.

    Can you tell where I wrong ?

    Thanks
    Cristiano

    Re: Calculated field and table

    Try getting rid of the "expression_result" in the script such as changing this (red gotten rid of)

    Code:
    [COLOR=Red]expression_result = [/COLOR] eval("Tbl_Invoice_Totali->Invoice_Number",form_name)
    parentform:Invoice2.value = [COLOR=Red]expression_result[/COLOR]
    To this----
    Code:
    parentform:Invoice2.value = eval("Tbl_Invoice_Totali->Invoice_Number",form_name)
    Do this for all of them and see it that helps...get rid of the Delete Expression_Result also.

    PS---lucky I don't need glasses and can still read fine print!!!

        Re: Calculated field and table

        Ok,
        Looking at it another way...
        Are the "Tbl_Invoice_Totali->Gran_Total" field and parentform:Grand_total field the same types? Alpha thinks not.

        Do any errors come up if this particulare part of the script is taken out?

        Also you confused me a bit with how your table structure is, where the tables are, ...be a bit more specific ---don't know if it even has anything to do with your issue yet really.

          ... ....
          Ok, but why Alpha thinks the "Tbl_Invoice_Totali->Gran_Total" field and parentform:Grand_total (Calculated field) are not same type ? they are both numbers , they have both 2 decimal . How is possible they are not the same types ?

            Another question Mike: but my calculated fields they have to insert only onto my Form or they have insert also in the set ?

            Thanks

              Your code appears to be correct. At this point we would be making blind guesses. If you attach a sample database it would be much easier to diagnose the problem.

                  Re: Calculated field and table

                  I think something was created in reverse. The original script tries to store a table field to a form calculated field.

                  Try this.

                  Code:
                  DIM form_name as c
                  if is_object(topparent.this) then
                  	form_name = topparent.name()+".this"
                  else
                  	form_name = ""
                  end if

                  DELETE expression_result
                  expression_result = parentform:Grand_total.value 'store calculated field to variable
                  eval("Totali->Grand_Total_Invoice",form_name) = expression_result 'store variable to table field
                  DELETE expression_result
                  expression_result = parentform:Amt_tax.value
                  eval("Totali->Total_Vat",form_name) = expression_result
                  DELETE expression_result
                  expression_result = parentform:Total.value
                  eval("Totali->Total_",form_name) = expression_result

                    Hi Stan,

                    sorry but not work.

                    it seams like that the Set do not pass the invoice_number to the Totali table.

                    A question . I need to insert my calculated fields also in the set and nt only in the form or not?

                    I try to recreate a new set .

                      I think my attachment does what you want. I may have modified your set during testing. Where my code line reads

                      tbl = table.current(4)

                      change the 4 to the position number for tbl_invoice_totali in your actual set. I changed the field width of the invoice_number field in tbl_invoice_totali to 8 so that you don't lose the last two characters when you store the 8 digit invoice number from the parent table.

                      Code was also added to the onsave event of the browse.

                        Ok Thanks Stan, but 2 question :

                        the number 4 between the two brackets - tbl = table.current(4) - is the position in the set for the tbl_invoice_totali ?
                        and last : why you need to added the same code on the browse ther is not sufficient on the Cansave events of the form ?

                        Let me know and thanks again ;)

                          yes, counting down from the parent.
