Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Re: Progressive Find

    It is really finiky. If you leave one field or vairable replacement out, it will plaque you. What I had done in the past, is to print or open another window and compare line by line what variables or fields need to be changed. Time comsuming, but it works. Meanwhile, I'll look at the code as well. Loomks like you are getting a "Fetch Error"

      I see a DIM variable for
      DIM vParts_Id AS C but in the code like on line 94 and a few other places just vPartsId. This is also causing you some problems

        Thanks for you quick responce.
        I checked the varible names and made them consistant but the problem remains the same. In my partsno database I have multple occasions of Parts_Id numbers and In the bull_master database (which is the database my form is based on and the top of set,) they are unique. I was in need of being able to pick different names from my partsno database with progressive find and fetch a single field equivilent in the bull_master database. I tryed to do this by returning the Parts_Id field on fetch. I get numbers back but they do not match between the two databases.
        My form was made befor they wanted the Progressive Find.
        Thanks for your needed help

          Re: Progressive Find

          I've never used the script so I'm not sure what should be happening but I can see that in two places

          Code:
          function OnDoubleClick as c(lv as p,listView as p,args as p)
          	WITH lv
          		vpartsid  = listView.GetRowValue(args.GetClickRow())
          '		ui_msg_box("OnDoubleClick",vpartsid)
          		[COLOR="Red"]t = topparent.table_get()[/COLOR]
          		dim recno_for_partsid as n
          		'The event handler for the ListView cannot see the local functions in the script.
          		'The ui_dlg_eval() function evaluates a function in the context of the named UI_DLG_BOX().
          		'Since the Xdialog referenced by 'dlg_title' CAN see the local FindRecNoForPartsid() function,
          		'we are able to evaulate the expression and get the record number for the selected partsid.
          		recno_for_partsid = ui_dlg_eval(dlg_title,"FindRecNoForPartsid(vpartsid)")
          		t.fetch_goto(recno_for_partsid)
          		topparent.resynch()
          		if flagCloseAfterFind then
          			ui_dlg_event(dlg_title,"Close")
          		end if

          	END WITH
          end function
          Code:
          IF a_Dlg_button = "goto_record"
          	a_dlg_button = ""
          	[COLOR="red"]t = topparent.table_get()[/COLOR]
          	t.fetch_goto(FindRecNoForPartsid(vpartsid))
          	topparent.resynch()
          	if flagCloseAfterFind then
          		ui_modeless_dlg_close(dlg_title)
          	end if
          END IF
          The code attempts to locate the record number from the partsno table in the bullmaster table.

            I've used portions of Jim's code in a variety of places.

            As I've modified it, I've always found it invaluable and a significant time saver to use the debugger.

            If you haven't tried it, put a debug(1) in part of your code and walk through your code - step by step.

              My problem is not with Jims fine codeing but in the fact that I made a working database and managment wanted a progressive find added to it. My database structure could be the problem.

                Re: Progressive Find

                The progressive find script as used in AlphaSports is based on the fact that the topparent.table_get() is the table upon which the form is based. You have a bit of a different situation using your set.

                Your modification of the script correctly finds the record number in the partsno table but then tries to find that record number in the bull_master table. When the record number is found in the bull_master table, focus shifts to that record. When it is higher than the last record in bull_master you get a past end of file error.

                Create a set as indicated in my screenshot and the progressive find works. (After creating the set, switch to the forms tab, right click on the Publication form, choose Copy To, select the new set.) Not sure if the rest of what you want to do will also work.

                  Dan... are you getting errors on the t.fetch_goto(FindRecNoForPartsid(vpartsid))

                  FindRecNoForPartsid is returning a vpartsid number that is causing an error.

                  I just want to make sure I'm seeing the right problem. Is the progressive lookup returning the wrong data or no data??

                  When I double-click on a line in the progressive lookup like 10K I'm getting data returned. If I double-click on 11-604-XX I don't get a response.

                  However, if I highlight 10K and click the Goto Record button - again I get data and the form syncs. If I hightlight 11-604-XX and click the Goto Record button I get an error - record number is past end of table.

                  So, is the problem that you're getting wrong data back or no data or both?

                    Re: Progressive Find

                    I am getting data back but it is not what I selected. Looking at it today it looks like the problem ic in the selection process. The data that is returned is displayed right but the wrong data.

                      You are great. This is all I had to do. I thought about trying this but was afraid I would upset the apple cart. All seems to work well thanks a bunch.
