Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Export not working (v.5 to v.9)

    I have some export operations that worked fine in v.5, but they will not work in v.9

    What I wanted to do (and did in v.5) was to export all emails for customers who had aol.com email addresses.

    In the filter for the export, this is what I had:

    right(alltrim(email),8) = "@aol.com"

    I had to change my email field to e_mail in v.9, so changed the filter to

    right(alltrim(e_mail),8) = "@aol.com"

    It still does not work.

    I get an error message that says "Error running export operation" - no such field"

    Why wouldn't this same export work in v.9

    Carol

    If you view the export operation, in the Export fields box on the right does the field show as

    email

    or

    e_mail

    ?
    There can be only one.

        Looks ok. In the operations tab of the control panel, right click on the operation name, choose Show xbasic, choose the Without ... tab, copy and paste the xbasic here.

        Should look something like

        Code:
        export_filename = "h:\executive\hdb\temp\packs.xls"
        a_tbl = table.open("item")
        DIM a5_operation_order as C
        a5_operation_order = "f02"
        query.order = a5_operation_order
        DIM a5_operation_filter as C
        a5_operation_filter = "between(F17,51213,51867)"
        query.filter = a5_operation_filter
        query.options = "I"
        query.Description = "Temporary Query"
        i_indx = a_tbl.query_create()

        export.type = 4
        export.names = .T.
        export.file = export_filename
        export.options = ""
        export.field_sep = ""
        export.record_sep = ""
        export.fields = 3
        export.field1 = "f01"
        export.field2 = "f02"
        export.field3 = "l_act_dte"

        a_tbl.export()
        a_tbl.close()
        Maybe something is being misinterpreted after the version change.

          I just created an entirely new export operation and it worked okay.

              I am still struggling with some exports I created in v.4 and trying to run in v.9

              I changed one of the field names (email to e_mail) so the export operation is giving me an error. So I right-click and choose "show xbasic" and change the field to e_mail - but how do I save the changes?

              I see no option to save it?

              Thanks.

              Carol

              P.S. I tried to create a new export, but I have to type in the filter expression all the time - I'm sure i'm doing something wrong there - but haven't figure it out yet.

              What I want it to do is export all customer with an aol.com email address - so in v.4 I used In the filter for the export, this is what I had:

              right(alltrim(email),8) = "@aol.com"

                but how do I save the changes?
                You should see a Copy to Clipboard button. Use that, switch to the code tab, create a new script using xbasic, paste the export operation script, edit it, save it. Run the script rather than the operation.

                I tried to create a new export, but I have to type in the filter expression all the time
                You mean you can't save an operation with the filter?

                    Glad to hear it.

                    Are you still having trouble saving export operations with filters?
