Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Controlling Netmailer with XBasic

I have just downloaded and installed Netmailer, and want to include it in an application, where I don't want users to access the control panel. I have searched the Alpha help file and this board, but can't find the answers to the following questions:

    1. Is there a way to start the "create Netmailer job" genie from a button on a form?
    2. Is there an enumeration method to get a list of the Netmailer jobs that have been created for a table? This would allow me to prompt users to select an existing job; I could then use the job name in the a5_run_netmailer_job() function.

Does anyone know if this is possible?

    Thanks,
    Tony

    Hi Tony,

I have looked through the documentation and I'm afraid I cant find the function that does what you want, but I do know there is one.

To edit existing jobs for a particular table
      a5_netmailer_prompt("mytablename.dbf","BKEM","Choose Netmailer Job")

To create a new netmailer job for a particular table.
      a5_netmailer_genie("mytablename")

In the code editor type a5_net... to see the list of functions.

Where are these functions defined? I can't seem to find them in any docs.

Yeah, docs have not kept up with the product. That is why this message board is a major part of the documentation for me.

To get started I looked at the shortcut definition for netmailer in control_panel_addins folder.

Thank you for this - it is exactly what i was looking for. I know there isn't much documentation for this, so can you answer two questions for me...
              1. what is the "BKEM" in the above prompt function?
              2. what about creating and editing maintenance jobs.. i want to give a form with buttons that allow them to create / edit / run.. with the above, i can now do that for netmailer projects.. but what about the maintenance side... i can see how to run, just not create / edit

              thanks again!

Sorry posted in v9--moved to v10

Is anyone running netmailer for Alpha5 v10 in Windows 7? Since Windows 7 does not have an email program you have to use a 3rd party emailer.
The netmailer will not recognize the 3rd party email program as the default. How do you solve this problem?

I can't give much information. I don't give this capability to users. I just dug out the calls that Alpha is using. for a maintanance job it is
                  Code:
                  a5_netmailer_prompt("mytablename.dbf","EMMJ", "Choose Maintenance Job")

                    Re: Controlling Netmailer with XBasic

i have set everything up for netmailer but having one last problem. I have configured the "user profile" to match my outlook settings exactly, but here is the problem i'm having.

With any email addresses that come from my own domain, it works fine, so if i send [email protected] - it sends.. or if i mis-spel [email protected]... it fails..

However, any emails that don't have the @p3softwaresolutions.com extension - fail, even though i know they are valid email addresses. I can send from outlook, but not netmailer.. anyone had this problem, or know what i'm doing wrong?
