Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Re: Chapter 44. A Calendar Application

Hi all, John pointed out this discussion

and the question to me I think is: is alpha calendar pro just for the web?

      well that depends:
It Does need a WAS (alpha Five web application server) to be running on 1 machine

If you have that you could easily embed the calendar to a form just as you would embed any other webpage (there is some examples that come with alpha) and you dont need to know anything about HTML.

Hope this clarifies a little more, you can download the demo version and do some test (it comes with a trial version of flash calendar)
      Cheers
      Mauricio

Re: Chapter 44. A Calendar Application

        Hi Mauricio,

        Thank you for your comment.

        How about Jeff's suggestion?

I have a routine that generates the XML (for my needs -not necessary made for general do everything for everyone) that I will post. But, I do not want to do so unless Mauricio is ok with me doing so. Mauricio's no coding utility produces the needed xml file and allows for much more configuration with no coding than my UDF. I don't want to post my xml routine(s) unless Mauricio is ok with it since he has spent the time and effort to create a utility that interfaces with Flash Calendar Pro and my routine somewhat infringes on what he has done.

Jeff I cant stop some one for coming up with code to make an xml file
So its ok with me thank you for your considerations

Alpha Calendar is an all purpose tool for non programmers and I can guess that people will need to tweak your code so they can apply it for their specific needs
          Cheers

                To All:

Since Mauricio said it is ok to post a desktop version, here is my flash desktop demo.

It is set up to run on c:\alpha5v9\bsecalendar.
I have no clients right now running the app server, so I started making a desktop version and then got busy and just quit working on it.

There is still work to do to update the category and locations XML files.

If someone wants to play around with it-feel free.

If you get things working, just post a copy back so that I can update mine.

Re: Chapter 44. A Calendar Application

Attached please find my sample app with my 2 UDF's implemented and functioning. They first extract the data and then create the events.xml file. It is fairly well documented.

You must install to the directory I noted in and earlier post for this to work properly.

                  Hope it helps....

                  Regards,

                  Jeff

Later: I forgot to to mention that if you look at my data extraction UDF I have it set to get data for the past 180 days and then 30 days into the future instead of hard coding the start and end days. It is not really practical to get ALL your days if the table is of any size.

Just as a side note regarding xml creation....there is sample code already present on the messageboard...not all that difficult, but can be tedious to create---especially the testing to make sure it is correct as most software need to have it EXACTLY how they specify otherwise errors (and the error messages when present do not really tell you much so makes it difficult at times to figure out).

EDIT__just noticed Charlie's and Jeff's replies.....Thanks guys for the samples--had Charlies a while ago but look forward to finding the time to check out Jeff's now! :)

                      Hi Mike,

You are right on about that.....not terribly hard....but....tedious is the right word for sure! :D

                          Hi All

I am still on this chapter and I could not moved to next.
After deleted and re-copied several times on this steps, I finally get the appointments with calendar owner. Now I am on the next step 4 (page 226) and Step 5 which add events to the calendar ...
I think there are some missing commands or error. My calendar did not open any of the events dialog at all. The day cell from calendar did not execute the event.

I copied the Calendar from Learn alpha5 Web site, this copy is opening the event dialogs.

Did anyone find or know why xBasicBook version does not open the events?
