Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Roy,
Some have problems and some don't. Try a compatibility mode if a problem exists and this has worked for most/all.

Re: Ver 9 vs Win 7

I've been using version 9 with Windows 7 for almost 3 months with no problems directly related to Win 7. Initially there was a problem that I thought was caused by Win 7. However, that issue was traced to my Kaspersky Anti-Virus suite. I made some modifications to Kaspersky's Alpha Five settings and the problem disappeared, confirming that it had nothing to do with Win 7.

Prior to Win 7, I used A5 ver 9 with VISTA for over a year. Since Windows 7 is essentially VISTA with some modifications, there shouldn't be any compatibility problems between the OS and Alpha Five.

Morning. It would be GREAT for the group if you informed everyone what MODIFICATIONS you made to your Kaspersky settings for Alpha5. Rather than say FIXED, that says nothing to help others.

We have a client with an IT dept that just installed Kaspersky and now when they start up our application they get an error saying "access is denied".

Prior to that our APP was working 100%. We are using Alpha5, version 8.

Any suggestions what they should look for?

        BIG thanks.

        Thanks.

This is a copy of the advice given to me by the Kaspersky User Forum after I upgraded to Win 7 and Kaspersky 2010. I suggest you click on the Kaspersky Support Tab at the bottom of their window and go to the User Forum for help.

          1. Run Alpha Five

          2. In Kaspersky, click Settings - ThreatsAndExclusions - (exclusion) Settings - Trusted Applications

          3. Add - Applications... select the Alpha Five software exe file (should be near the top of the list) and check all of the boxes.

          4. Click OK.

Repeat the process if there is more than one Alpha Five file in the Applications list.
          -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
          for .DDM files.

If the above does not work (adding to Trusted Applications)

In Kaspersky, click Settings - File Antivirus,

if "scan files by format" was checked, select the "scan files by extension".

If "scan all files" was checked, then select "scan files by format".

For me, the top half did the job after I upgraded to Kaspersky 2010 and Win 7. Since then I haven't had any problems with Alpha Five.

Thanks for the info. I will get their IT to try this if they haven't already. When you refer to other files you just say the DDM. Does the same hold true for the DDX/DDD/SEM/SET/SEX?

            Much appreciated!!!!!!!!

Re: Ver 9 vs Win 7

I'm not an expert when it comes to Kaspersky so I hesitate to give any advice. I just followed 4 steps outlined in the document I posted and that solved my problem. As I mentioned in my previous comment, I didn't have to utilize any of the steps below the dotted line which was in the "try this if the above doesn't work" category.

My guess is your IT department will also find the solution is relatively simple. And if there's a problem, the Kaspersky User Forum guys are almost as helpful as the guys on the Alpha Forum.

As for the Kaspersky 2010 Suite, I think it might be the best product out there so I was very disappointed when I had that problem with A5. Thankfully that issue seems to be resolved.
