Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Changing Order of a field in Alpha mailer

    Hello,

Casual user who uses A5 database for my textbook business. I am building an email template so that I can click on an Email field within a browse, and this will then open alpha mailer. Once in Alpha Mailer I open a saved template which pulls in information to email to the recipient.

To be able to show multiple records for each Professor I added the table (Table name: Spring 2012 Textbooks.dbf) to a set with parent table of the same .dbf (Spring 2012 Textbooks.dbf) file and did a one-to many link by Email. This way I could one to many and get all the records for each Professor.

This has worked so far to pull in the information I need, now I am having trouble trying to sort some of it and filter out an item once it is displayed.

Here are the 2 issues i need help with:

1.) I want the enrollments to only show each Class one time. So if "AEM 3210" is already shown, do not show again. So if Field-"Class" has a value that is already shown do not repeat it in the one.many loop.
So in the below examples this is what I want the Enrollment portion of the preview to look like:

    AEM 3210 - 60 Students
    ALS 1340 - 35 Students
    COMM 4280 - 45 Students

2.) I also need to A-Z the "Class" field (a character field) in the Textbook section of the email. So here is what I want the Texbook preview of the example to look like:

    AEM 3210 - GNOMON - COURSE PACKET - -
    AEM 3210 - MANN - SMITH & ROBERSON'S BUSINESS LAW - 9780538473637 - 15TH
    AEM 3210 - MANN - CUSTOM - SMITH & ROBERSONS BUSINESS LAW CU - -
    ALS 1340 - - NTR - -
    COMM 4280 - PEMBER - MASS MEDIA LAW (P) - 9780073526188 - 18TH

Here is my template so far:

    Dear Professor <<Professor|Y>>,

    Estimated Course Enrollments:
    [.ONE_MANY:Cornell_Sp_12_Booklist1]
    <<Class|>> - <<Estenroll||5|0>> Students
    [.END_ONE_MANY]

    Textbook lists for your courses:
    [.ONE_MANY:Cornell_Sp_12_Booklist1]
    <<Class|>> - <<Author|>> - <<Title|>> - <<Isbn|>> - <<Edition|>>
    [.END_ONE_MANY]

Here is an example preview of this above code:

    Dear Professor Grossman,

    Estimated Course Enrollments:

    AEM 3210 - 60 Students
    AEM 3210 - 60 Students
    COMM 4280 - 45 Students
    ALS 1340 - 35 Students
    AEM 3210 - 60 Students

    Textbook lists for your courses:

    AEM 3210 - MANN - SMITH & ROBERSON'S BUSINESS LAW - 9780538473637 - 15TH
    AEM 3210 - GNOMON - COURSE PACKET - -
    COMM 4280 - PEMBER - MASS MEDIA LAW (P) - 9780073526188 - 18TH
    ALS 1340 - - NTR - -
    AEM 3210 - MANN - CUSTOM - SMITH & ROBERSONS BUSINESS LAW CU - -

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Chris

Re: Changing Order of a field in Alpha mailer

Also, I tried to use the Child Table Order setting when I created the link in the .set and received this error:

"Could not create/edit link. It is possible that the child table was opened in another session. Alpha Five needs exclusive access to the child table. Try exiting from Alpha Five, and then create link again.

Internal error message was: Not an open table"

I am not sure, but am assuming this is happening because the parent table of the set is the same table I am trying to adjust? It will not let me change the order, yet if I leave the order blank it add's the link just fine.
