Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Printing from Calendar

    Hi All

    This is the form: It is a calendar with a child browse; on the form is a print button that asks for a date to print a report for all the items on that date. What I would like to be able to do is use the Date that has already been selected on the calendar and use that date as the veriable in the data selection for the report automatically. This would keep the whole thing mouse operated. All help greatfully appreciated.

    RE: Printing from Calendar

    "Date that has already been selected on the calendar" - What is "behind" the date being selected on the form? Is a parent record field?

    You should be able to create a form veriable (variable?) global or session, have your print button make the variable assignment based on the value of that field, then use the variable in the report filter.
    There can be only one.

      Stan

      Thanks for your reply.

      The form VARIABLE that I have is as follows: Level; Session, Name; Showdate, Type;D, Value / /. The script for the print button that I have for the moment is:

      dim global GDATE as D
      GDATE=ctod(UI_GET_DATE("Date Selection","Enter Schedule Date:"))
      if dtoc(GDATE)="" THEN
      END
      end if
      Report.preview("Schedule")
      goto cleanup
      cleanup:
      end

      Could you please tell me how to use the variable, instead of the UI_GET_DATE.

      Thanks for your help.

        RE: Printing from Calendar

        I still have the same question. What determines the "currently selected" date on the form?

        How does the user select a date on the form?

        You could put your variable on the form and have the user enter a value, then your print button could refer to

        showdate = :yourformname:yourfieldname.value

        As I understand it this is not what you want. You want the user to be able to click on a date and have showdate reference the "active" date. What type of object are they clicking?

          Keith:
          Can you zip up the app and post it on the board.
          maybe we can help more if we could see the forms.

            Hi Stan

            I think you have understood exactly what I am trying to do.

            The button I am clicking on, is the calendar created by Michael Pesach. The report has a filter which at the moment works with the variable GDATE. This ofcourse can be changed.
            Please let me know if you need any more info.

              RE: Printing from Calendar

              Keith,

              I took a look at the docs for the calendar as presented on learn alpha and found:

              Showdate: This is the current focus date of the calendar. It is supposed to be global but you indicate it is session.

              All you should need to do is:

              dim global GDATE as D
              GDATE = showdate
              if dtoc(GDATE)="" THEN
              END
              end if
              Report.preview("Schedule")
              goto cleanup
              cleanup:
              end

              Unless I'm missing something, which would not be unusual.

                Thanks for help.

                I changed the variable to Global and the script as follows.

                dim global GDATE as D
                GDATE=ctod("+showdate+")
                if dtoc(GDATE)="" THEN
                END
                end if
                Report.preview("Schedule2")
                goto cleanup
                cleanup:
                end

                It does just what I wanted. Thanks again.
