Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Page Numbers

I am having a problem with page numbers on a report. My report has two columns. In the page header I am using the pagexofy command to print the page number. On the first page the page number is correct (Page 1 of 2) on the second page of the report the page number is Page 3 of 2. If I use just the pageno command to put the page number on the report the first page is numbered 1 and the second page is numbered 3. If anyone has any ideas about how to solve this problem I would appriciate hearing from you.

    Thanks
    Mike

    RE: Page Numbers

This is related to when the new page fires to advance the page counter. For starters, try moving your pg x of y field to the page footer and see if it works properly.

Could it be that the page counter is somehow counting columns?

            RE: Page Numbers

Thanks for the ideas. I came in this morning and tried putting the page xofy command in the page footer. This produced some strange results my first page was number 2 of 2 and the second page was numbered 4 of 2.

There are 4 columns in the report (two on each page). When I take the columns out of the report the its 4 pages long and the numbering works fine in both the page header and footer.

            Thanks again,
            Mike.

              RE: Page Numbers

It certainly does sound like the page counter is counting columns. This leaves the question of why my two-col report pagenates properly. I'll look into this.

                Bill,

I convinced the report is counting columns and not pages. When I put the PAGEXofY command in both the page header and footer the X will increase by one from the top of the page to the bottom.

Next I tried to use the PAGENO(GRP->Checknumber) command in the page header. This will work properly from page 1 to page 2, I'm assuming it will work if it goes to three pages.

Since the Y part of PAGEXofY has always been correct I thought maybe using the AT command I could pull the Y out of the equation. (ie. AT("f",SYSTEM->PageXofY)this syntax seem correct but it gives me a result of 9 and I have no idea were that is comming from.

Thanks for your help so far
                Mike.

                  Success,

I got the page numbers working correctly this afternoon. In my page header I have a calculated field using PAGENO(GRP->) and then I simply use the PAGECOUNT() command to get the total number of pages.

As far as I can tell its working fine.

                  Thanks for the help everyone.
