RE: A5 crashes - solved???
Tom:
Thanks for your response. I don't believe the crashes are self inflicted. I don't have any imbedded browses and I believe the scripts are all solid at this time, but then anything is possible.
I have seen the posts regarding switching print drivers but to date have left the HP driver in place and I am just living with the crashes even though they are annoying.
One of the biggest reasons I haven't switched drivers is that the HP printer (DeskJet 1120C) is not only used to print Alpha 5 reports. This printer prints everything from text to intense graphics. I am a bit hesitant to change to a generic driver or even an older HP driver in fear that it may impact graphics ability of the printer. Maybe this is an unfounded fear, but my fear none the less.
And I might add just for the record, fixing problems by swapping (or removing) things has always been one of my "pet peeves". How many times have I (and we) been on the phone with a tech support person who has me change this, remove that and add this. When we get all done the initial problem is fixed (GREAT - PROBLEM SOLVED) BUT now other things on the system don't work anymore. I believe the bug should be fixed in the module in which it exists (in this case either HP or Alpha) and to my knowledge this one has not been pin pointed yet.
Anyway, at this point I have been willing to live with the crashes, hoping Alpha will eventually find the cause. If I get frustrated enough, I will change (or add) drivers to work around the problem. I just haven't wanted to take the time to tinker with it yet. I guess you could say I am not mad or upset with the problem, just some what frustrated and I am waiting for the fix.
