PRINTING PAGE BREAK IN FORM

I have a 2 page form. I 'am trying to print the form
out using the page break. The first page prints fine, then
I get 3 blank pages, then my second page prints out with
another blank page. I've tried 3 different printers and
they all do the same thing. If anyone can give me
information to correct this it would be much appreciated.

Roger,
I had this problem before but can't remember how I fixed it. That's a lot of help. But if you could change the form to a report it works much better when it comes to printing.

I'm not sure what a '2 page form' really is. Are you talking about form that has a tabbed subform on it with two tab pages?


In other contexts folks have reported similar happenings if the dimensions of their forms didn't fit within the printable area on each sheet of paper. Most lasers and inkjets have unprintable regions along each edge. You might check your printer manual to see how your form's dimensions square with what your printer is capable of. If your form won't fit, then Alpha Five (and Windows) tries to put the omitted parts on other sheets... presumably so you could tape them together I guess.

I had a similar problem printing forms and did not pursue it too hard to solve it. My solution, since it was for documentation in any case, was to copy the form
(ALT PRINTSCREEN) and then paste it into a WORD doc
(CTRL V)... this allows you to then annotate the screen picture with instruction, bubble comment for user documentation. .... if you want documentation...!

I agree with Bob K. I never, ever use forms for printing - even in my personal applications. Forms are for viewing and data input. Reports are for printing - always and forever! That's what they were designed for.

Just look at the appearance - computer screens are basically landscape and paper is generally used in the portrait direction. Tie this together with the basic tenet that good form design practice dictates that the user should NOT need to use the scroll bar unless absolutely necessary. (OK, a lot of people don't follow this rule and have no problems using their own scrolling forms. This is fine if your business never grows and nobody else ever uses your forms. The problem comes when someone in the future has to use your form and isn't familiar with it - see below. Also, take a look at commercial software.)

I can't tell you how many times I've run into customers that started out by printing forms and then run into trouble as the business grows, the application becomes more complex (buttons and other features are added to forms), and new users come on board. Start out right - view forms, print reports.
