Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Arial font justified to "top"

    Hello,

I've seen many posts herein indicating that there's some problem with the Arial font, but I'm not sure what it is.

I seem to have a problem with the Arial font whereby when I set the alignment to centered/horizontal and middle/vertical the printed output is good for the centered/horizontal, but the print is to the top of the field on the middle/vertical setting. When I look at the print preview it looks fine.

Anybody have this problem? Is it the "arial font" problem everybody talks about here?

    Thanks,
    Mike
    Thank you,

The Arial font problem you read about here is that when Alpha Five version 4 is installed, the bar graph font that is installed with the program ends up being mapped to the Arial font in windows. The directions that came with the program explain how to correct the problem.

There was at least one response on this forum from Alpha indicating that they may have newer installation CD's without the problem, so all installations may not experience it.

    Your problem would be different.

Bar code font, not bar graph font.

I've just found that my "Universal" font is doing the same thing as my "Arial"...both are set for center/middle of a field in my reports, however, when printed both look to be shifted toward the top of the field. Print preview does not display any problem and looks fine. Only see problem when printing report.

          Thanks,

            Mike,

Have you tried deleting them & then re-installing them?

              Doug,

              No, haven't tried that.

If I deleted them, would I have to have them on disk to re-install them? To get them on disk I'd have to make a copy of the font to re-install, or since the Arial is a font that came with my PC, is there a permanent copy of it somewhere within windows?

Actually, the Universal font is a font that I took from an old computer that we no longer use and installed it on mine. Its' installation is relatively new.

Also, I don't see this action happening within other programs so I'm wondering if it's somehow related to how Alpha handles the fonts???

              Thanks,
              Mike

                Mike:

Several months ago I had the same problem with the arial font. I was using it in a single line text box with a border & shadow on a report. The print preview looked ok, but when it would print the text would be justified to the top of the box.

I have a older 300 DPI laser printer at home and use a 600 DPI printer at work. The text printed fine on the 300 DPI printer. The same report printed on the 600 DPI printer, the Arial Font in the text box was justified to the top of the box.

After several attempts (deleting the text, re-aligning, starting a new report) to find the problem, I finally
justified the text to the bottom and it prints fine on both printers.

I have yet to determine the cause, but I feel it may be related to printer drivers.

I you find the cause... Let us know

                Good Luck!

                Jim
