Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    How to set simple mask

I am the new user for this Alpha5 software. My question is how can i create a simple mask in my data-base for a field called reference number (it is not auto incremental) to be displayed by defualt as
    for example 2001-0001
2001 should appear by defualt in the form. the problem is what should be written in the mask to appear 0 (zero) in the form.
i would like to make the form in such a way that if I enter 1, it should display 2001-0001, and for 2 the system should display 2001-0002.

Any help would be highly appreciated.

RE: How to set simple mask

If the field is a character field, go to field rules and see simple mask with expression. Enter "2001-200"
The user can type 1 and get 2001-2001 or type 2 and get 2001-2002.

RE: How to set simple mask

      Sorry Bob,

Thank u so much for your prompt reply Bob.

But unfortunately this way it is not working, what happens is, if I set the mask value to "2001-200" then, in data entry form, the field looks like this 2_ _1-2_ _ and if the user enter 1, it shows only 21. or the user has to enter 00 again 001

The problem is with zero. If I enter any zero as the mask value (as in 2001)the Alpha recognize these two zeroes as the number to be entered and a blank curser will appear in the data entry form, and user can enter or he has to enter any number in place of zero.

what number I have to assign in the simple mask in the field rules so that it can convert that into zero and display zero in the entry form.

hope u may have understood my problem. if u can elaborate this for me, I will be very thankful

Is your field a character field? I created a field 9 characters wide and placed "2001-200" as a mask. Also chose to have the curser at the end of the unselected text and I get 2001-200?

          Sorry Bob,

This is very strange, it is not working with me, I don't know why.

When i entered 2001-0000 as my mask, the entry form shows "2_ _1-_ _ _ _ " and the curser is just after 2.

This is Charector field, and has Charector wide and I chose curser at the end of unselected text.

Once again thanks for kind efforts, Bob.

I got it figured out. In the option "Mask Style" there should be "No Mask" as the choice. You probably have "Simple Mask" as a choice. Make sure "No Mask" is chosen. Go farther down to Default Mode and choose simple expression. There is where the expression "2001-200" should be. Have "place curser at end of selected text" checked.
