Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Runtime problem

    I have a form in my application which contains a browse. The browse is ordered lastname, firstname and is filtered using the isnotblank function. The application is running on a Novell network with network optimization on the workstation.

    When the form is opened using my full version of Alpha 5, the browse is ordered and filtered correctly. When the form is opened using the runtime version, the browse is in record order and unfiltered. The results are the same even if runtime is used to open the .ADB on the server instead of the shadowed copy.

    Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

    I inadvertantly posted this to the announcements section...I appologise.

    RE: Runtime problem

    Is the build number for the runtime the same as the build number of the development version?

        RE: Runtime problem

        Did you specify the form order and filter in the form properties or is the form displaying the data in the order and filtered chosen by the last query run on your machine? This would be different on the client machines.
        There can be only one.

          Stan

          The order and selection is made in the form, and no other query is made. The problem exists even when all access is made using the same machine to access the form in both programs.

          If the app is run in full alpha from either the network directory, or the shadow directory, the browse shows ordered and filtered correctly.

          If the app is run in runtime from either location, the ordering and filtering is disregarded.

            Warren,
            I have an app where I select a field on the form and press a button to bring up and center a form with an embedded browse. The code follows. I put the index_set in the button that opens the form and this works for both the full and runtime versions.
            dim vMn as c
            dim shared vIndx as c
            dim pFormPntr as p
            dim vScrnHigh as n
            dim vScrnWide as n
            dim vFormHigh as n
            dim vFormWide as n
            vMn=parentform:MachSide.value
            vIndx=alltrim("Trend"+left(alltrim(vMn),1))
            vScrnHigh=ui_info(1)
            vScrnWide=ui_info(0)
            pFormPntr=:form.load("QTrend")
            vFormWide=pFormPntr.width
            vFormHigh=pFormPntr.height
            pFormPntr.top=if(vFormHigh>=vScrnHigh,0,(vScrnHigh-vFormHigh)/2)
            vFormPntr.left=if(vFormWide>=vScrnWide,0,(vScrnWide-vFormWide)/2)
            pFormPntr.index_set(vIndx)
            pFormPntr.show()
            pFormPntr.activate()
            end

                RE: Runtime problem

                Warren, I'm glad to say I've never encountered what you describe, provided the installed runtime build matched the developer version's build. I know you answered the question once before, but if I were you I'd double check it.

                Also, and I know this is unlikely, but is it possible you have more than one copy of your database on the system, with the RT running one, while the developer vers. runs another? Sometimes folks get their paths mixed up, especially when network optimizing, so I thought I'd ask... If the user is clicking a shortcut icon to start, it's sometimes not easy for them to recognize 'which' database is actually running.
