Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    RE: Converting Numbers To Hexidecimal

    I can't find anything in the manual that answers this question.

    If you know the range of values you want to convert, and you have the time and energy, I suppose you could build a lookup table by hand.

    A BASIC programmer could probably output the list for you as a comma separated values, which could then be imported into the Lookup table. This assumes of course that you know the range of values you want included...

    I might have time to fool with this over the weekend if you don't get any better suggestions from others in this forum.

      RE: Converting Numbers To Hexidecimal

      William,

      Create a global script function like the code below. Call it by passing a numeric value similar to

      Dec2Hex(123)
      Dec2Hex(-123)
      Dec2Hex(123.45)
      Dec2Hex(-123.45)
      Dec2Hex(numeric_expression)

      [b]function Dec2Hex as C(Number as N)
      ' Convert Number to HexaDecimal

      ' This contains the maximum number of fractional digits allowed
      ' it could be an additional parameter in the function too
      places=5

      Dec2Hex=""

      ' Compute the Integer portion
      i=INT(ABS(number))
      h=""
      while i>0
      h=SUBSTR("0123456789ABCDEF",MOD(i,16)+1,1)+h
      i=INT(i/16)
      END WHILE

      ' Compute the Fractional portion
      p=0
      i=ABS(number)-INT(ABS(number))
      IF i>0.and.p0.and.p

            Tom,

            Thank you for your e-mail note. Yes, you are correct that the board "Ate my homework". The correct code (hopefully) is;

            function Dec2Hex as C(Number as N)
            ' Convert Number to HexaDecimal

            ' This contains the maximum number of fractional digits allowed
            ' it could be an additional parameter in the function too
            places=5

            Dec2Hex=""

            ' Compute the Integer portion
            i=INT(ABS(number))
            h=""
            while i>0
            h=SUBSTR("0123456789ABCDEF",MOD(i,16)+1,1)+h
            i=INT(i/16)
            END WHILE

            ' Compute the Fractional portion
            p=0
            i=ABS(number)-INT(ABS(number))
            IF i>0.and.places>p
            h=h+"."
            while i>0.and.places>p
            h=h+SUBSTR("0123456789ABCDEF",INT(i*16)+1,1)
            i=(i*16)-INT(i*16)
            p=p+1
            END WHILE
            END IF

            ' Add negative if less than 0
            IF 0>number
            h="-"+h
            END IF

            Dec2Hex=h

            end function

              Hi Ira and everyone,

              Ira, my hat is still off event though "...the board "Ate my homework..."

              Someday I should probably post the technology-enhanced and new-age-lifestyle based excuses students now give for damaged and absent course work.

              You will easily be able to invent the the obvious "hard disk crash" and similar excuses. Incompatible versions of word processing software are prevalent.

              But what is one to think of "I left it in my other car" and (as God is my witness, I am not making this up) "I can't write when I'm in love."

              And then there are the pagers and cell phones going off in class....

              Am I an old fogey or what?

                Ira,
                Iknew you would come up with a detailed conversion
                from decimal to hex. I tried a less ambtious goal,
                dealing with posutve integers and a limited range.
                I was not sucessful. Here is my abortive effort.

                Appreciate any comments from you or anyone on this
                board on where I havw gone wrong.

                I thought I would try my hand at creating a funnction HEX to convert
                decimal to hexadecimal. My effort below does not work. It works fine
                for numbers 1 to 14 and fails on numbers =>15.

                I can understand why it might not work for numbers greater than 15
                although I thought my logic was OK (ha ha).

                However the failure for N=15 puzzles me. The function HEX2, below, is
                exactly like the first part of HEX and it works fine.

                Another point. When I use the STR(N.1) function it shows result
