Going to & from browse

Hi all,

Instead of using a mouse, what keystroke combinations will take you to & from a browse in a set, such as an Invoice and its' line items listed in a browse?

F8 "toggles" between a form and it's companion browse or default browse, if no campanion defined. Is that what you want?

Sorry for being vague.

With reference to an invoice form that has header information on the form and an embedded browse displaying the line items...when entering records in the browse, pressing F6 takes you out of the browse and back to the header, but pressing F6 again does not take you back.

In A4v6, pressing Tab with move you to the next region, invoice line items, and Shift-Tab will do the same in reverse...will go backwards.

I'm looking to see if there's a similiar way to go back & forth between the line items of an embedded browse.

Just to make sure you realize --- you can set the tab order in a form. Not sure how many fields you have or have to have in your form, but if the tab order is such that your header is followed by the embeddded browse in the "tab order" then tab and shift-tab will move back and forth.

Check under the arrange menu for setting tab order.

Hi Stan,

In Alpha Four they call a "prompt order" what they call "tab order" in Alpha Five. Also in Alpha Four, when in a form, the Tab key is strictly used to cycle through regions, such as a region with Invoice Line Items. Shift-Tab to reverse. This makes navigating forms extremely easy, as we don't care for using a mouse around here.

It's much quicker to press the Tab key when the hands are already on the keyboard than to reach over, grasp the mouse, move cursor over the appropriate area, left click, release & return hand to keyboard.

I was hoping that A5 had something similiar. Hm...F6 when within a browse takes you out of a browse...I wonder if that can be reversed somehow?

On a Form a Tabbed form were one tab contains an embedded Browse, I use this Script on an on_key_event

if a_user.key.value = "{F3}".and. a_user.key.event = "down"
tabno = Tabbed1.Tab_Get()
if tabno = 1
Tabbed1.Tab_Set(2)
Browse1:Item_Code.Activate()
elseif tabno = 2
Tabbed1.Tab_Set(1)
end if
end if

Try changing it according to your layout

I just did this yesterday. It uses the form's OnKey event. I'm not an expert with OnKey, so this may or may not be the most efficient way to use it, but it works for me.

key = a_user.key.value
if fname.Active() = "Browse_Field" then
if key = "{TAB}" then
   a_user.key.handled = .T.
   if a_user.key.event = "down" then 
      fname:Next_Field.Activate()
   end if
end if
end

- where YourFormName is the name of your form, Browse_Field is the name of an embedded browse field and Next_Field is the field following the browse field. You could also define Shift-TAB to do the reverse field navigation.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for your input. I just scoured the A5 Users Manual and found the following on page 25.

CTRL TAB: Moves forward to an embedded browse or another part of the form.

SHIFT CTRL TAB: Moves backwards to an embedded browse or another part of the form.

However, neither works.
