If the file does not exist it gets to STOP and shutsdown the script. Is this right? I thought it was supposd to send it to the error handler???

First time researching the exist function I used exist() and overlooked what you were using.

wo_numb=file_names[i]
if exist(file_names[i],"joined.dbf","wo_numb")=.t.

Shouldn't make any difference but did you try:

wo_numb=file_names[i] 'If you're going to assign it, why not use it in the next statement?
wo_rslt = exist(wo_numb,"joined.dbf","wo_numb")
if wo_rslt=.t.
...
...
...

In any case I would use the debugger to find out what wo_numb was before and after the assignment statement, and I would see whether the if "falls through" to the statement after the if or jumps to the else.

The Script works fine. The STOP command is not fireing the error_handler: routine. It just shuts the script down. In debugger it will see the exist statement is false and goto errflag=1 then stop and thats where the script ends. ANy Ideas. I tried running the script in the book with the STOP function and it didnt work either. I tried another computer and it didnt work.

ARRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!
