How to eliminate

Can we eliminate the confirmation message that pop up after an operation, like import or append.
I run both operation from a button on a form, but after it finishes the import I have to click OK on the confirmation box, same with the import.

I appreciate any response

There is a "run silent" option in the dialog box when you choose an operation to run from a button. This will suppress the message. If you specify a script to run, which calls the operation, use the

:type of operation.run_silent("name of your operation")

format.

I believe you are looking for the "run_silent" option.

If you are using action scripting, there is a "run silent" check box when you define a script to run a saved operation.

In Xbasic, the sytax is:
:Copy.run_silent(""saved_op_name>")

Thanks for all the responses. That was it.
But why does the append operation run so much slower from a script on a push button from running it directly from the control panel ?

An append runs faster from the control panel because it gets exclusive control of a database for the append (assuming no one else is using it on the network). When called from a button on a form using the same database, the form has the database open, and thus must share the database with the append operation.

Many users run utility operations from a main menu attached to a database that serves no function except to hold the form for the buttons. It then runs operations on other databases in an exclusive manner.

Alternatively, you can use .batch_begin() and .batch_end() in Xbasic code to get temporary exclusive control of the database during the append.

Also, in actuality, if the append is small compared to the database being appended to, and there are many indexes, it can actually take longer to do the append in an exclusive mode. This is because A5 rebuilds all indexes after the append in exclusive mode, whereas it appends 1 at a time and updates the index in shared mode. It all depends on how long it takes to rebuild indexes vs appending a few records.

Thanks Ira.
As a matter of fact I reduced the database indeices to only 2 so I can cut down on the time.
But what you actually said makes sense, I'm going to try the batch_begin and batch_end to see how that performs.
