Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    ACT2000 & A5V4

I have a button on my ACT toolbar to open my Alpha app to the proper form but would like to automatically transfer my current contact data in ACT to my Alpha form. Any suggestions?

    RE: ACT2000 & A5V4

Ron We did this, this is what you will get:
ACT3 Go to file and click on filetransfer.
Go to export and click on deliminated text for the option
name the file as you wish

Go to alpha and import using the genie. You will find the file and the text file

THE HISTORY WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE TO YOU. THIS IS ACTS BUILT IN SECURITY SO THAT YOU MUST USE IT IF YOU WANT TO KEEP THIS DATA (APPOINTMENTS ETC.)

I did a print report to file and then did a file read_line to get the data into the file. Let me know if you can do this if you cannot I will give you my samples but they will be confusing. If you wish email me you database file in act and I will do it for you, returning tables with the data in it along with the codes so that you can see how it is done

A point to know, Act is very very very good. The restriction of course is the limited freedom to manipulate the data. I have duplicated the calendar and what Act does as far as scheduling appointments in a matter of microseconds, alpha does in a minute or three. All the built in features for email etc is matched nw by alpha and even graphs are matched in alpha. Look at the website learn alpha.com for all these great demos to see what alpha can do as well.

      RE: ACT2000 & A5V4

I use Sidekick, which is clean and neat. But all of the contacts, clients etc are in A5. I'd also like to make my A5 application into more of a PIM with calender appointments, to-dos etc. I've read the learn alpha articles, but if you can let me have a copy of your calender etc afiles etc as a starting point it would be much appreciated.

Any help or suggestions on this would as always be appreciated.

Incidentally, I have a Palm Vx. Any way to transfer data from A5 -> Palm desktop -> to enable hotsynch of data ??

      Thanks

      Jeremy

I would be very interested if anyone has done this yet. It is becoming a frequently asked question by clients.
