Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    filter expression help

    please, need some help on expressions again
    the expression belows works fine, it's attched to a button on a form
    that opens another form

    f=Form.load("INVBRS3")
    f:tables:invhdr3.filter_expression="CUSTID = '" + ID.TEXT + "'.AND.STATUS'"+"O"+"'"
    f:tables:invhdr3.order_expression="CUSTID"
    f:tables:invhdr3.query()

    status is a character field

    i would like to add another filter component to that ,
    balance = 0

    in other words status"O" AND BALANCE =0.00

    researched board but could not find similiar sample
    i also checked Tom Cones article on expressions

    any suggestions is appreaciated

    thanks

    RE: filter expression help

    Have you tried
    f:tables:invhdr3.filter_expression="CUSTID = '" + ID.TEXT + "'.AND.STATUS'"+"O"+'.AND.BALANCE='"+"0"+'"

    I think that follows the pattern.
    There can be only one.

      RE: filter expression help

      hi stan thanks for immediate response
      appreciate it very much

      i modified(") your addition thus
      '.AND.BALANCE='"+"0"+'" to
      this returned the "expected value" message
      "'.AND.BALANCE='"+"0"+"'"
      and get the "argument is incorrect date type"
      which is what i was getting in my experimnets also,
      cause i'm mixing character and numeric ???

      that i think is the problem and can't figure how to use
      the "str" in this expression, if that's the right approach

      thanks for your input, i know the answer is in their somewhere

        RE: filter expression help

        Try leaving out the quotes immediately surrounding the zero. I wasn't paying attention to the numeric value

          RE: filter expression help

          Tried this on a database of mine. When you are using a numeric value in the filter you don't need the quotes and
          +'s

          f:tables:invhdr3.filter_expression="CUSTID = '" + ID.TEXT + "'.AND.STATUS'"+"O"+"'+.AND. BALANCE=0"

          I think the STATUS'"+"O"+"' could be STATUSO (letter O), as you should only need the '" + ID.TEXT + "' when you are feeding a variable to the filter.

          At least that's what I see when I ran a query through the script recorder and tested.
          There can be only one.

            hi stan -just wanted to drop a quick thank you and let you
            know i received your efforts

            i tried them and still get expected values error which i believe
            means that i have a quote mark or somthing in the wrong place

            i'll continue to play with it
            but most importantly wanted to acknowledge your reply's
            i really DO appreciate it

            if i stmble across the correct syntax i'll let you know

              RE: filter expression help

              Ok, this is straight out of the script recorder:

              query.filter = "ADVERTISING_ACCRUAL->RECONCILED="+rectext+".AND.ADVERTISING_ACCRUAL->DESCRIPTION="APR 98 NAT AD".AND.ADVERTISING_ACCRUAL->VENDOR_NUMBER=4119.000000"

              rectext is a variable, RECONCILED is a text field, DESCRIPTION is a text field, VENDOR_NUMBER is a numeric field, ADVERTISING_ACCRUAL is a table. Note I was wrong about the text field not needing separators.

                John, may we assume that Cust_id and status are fields in the current table?

                How about "balance"? field in table or variable calculated on the fly?

                  thanks stan & tom
                  sorry for not responding sooner had to leave the office & just got in
                  stan - i'll take a closer look at that expression that you inserted

                  tom - the "balance " field is a field in the table defined
                  as calculated (invsum-paid)
                  in other words i can look at the inv header any time and see it's balnce
                  you think this has something to do with it??

                  again my deepest appreciation for all the input
                  and will work on it this evening and post the result

                    how about:

                    filter_expression = "CUSTID = '" + ID.TEXT + "'.AND. STATUS 'O' .and. BALANCE = 0"

                      by jove i think he's got it

                      just did i quick test and seems to work
                      i need to adopt to other filters using characters & numbers
                      now that i have the model to base it on

                      thanks stan & tom
