Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    RE: Balance sheet report design

The report that you design must be based on the table/set structure you have. I doubt you'll get any concrete answer to your request here because of this.

I've also seen a half dozen different formats for balance sheets, so you may want to check with an A5 consultant (see the listing on this site) for some help.

      RE: Balance sheet report design

i understand that the report must be based on the structure of my table.

however, if i had some sample balance sheet , i could always amend, delete, add the fields as per my structure.

i am having a problem wirth the basic design using sub reports.

there are no consultants where i live. matter of fact, i think i may be one of the only person using A5V4 in dubai -united arab emirates. moreover, i have an fairly extensive database with several reports and all working perfectly and having a problem with this aspect only.

      thanks & regards,

I, and many other Alpha consultants, work remotely with our customers. I have customers in other places who I will never meet face-to-face. Why not check the consultants' list and see?

          RE: Balance sheet report design

Here is a typical balance sheet. For manufactoring, you
may have some additional assets & liabilities (eg assets, inventory on hand; raw materials on hand; machinery, trucks,
containers, shipping materials; and on the liability side you may have additional items that you may want to break out(utilities, and the like related to manufactoring.) I highly suggest purchasing some business plan software which will help you create not only a balance sheet for your company, but help plan, make goals and perform analysis of
your profitability. I am not certain if the format provided will come across on the board. Good luck

            RE: Balance sheet report design

In order to produce any financial statement, you must classify your chart of accounts.

The approach I have used is this:
            I have eight basic groups,

            Current assets - 1
            Long term assets - 2
            Current liabilities - 3
            Long term liabilites - 4
            Equity - 5
            Revenue - 6
            COGS - 7
            Expenses - 8

You can have sub-classes if you need to, depends how detailed report you want.

Now, you know that balance sheet consists of groups 1-5, and you can filter and group your report on this.
The tricky part is to get Current earnings in the same report, since the filter does not include those classes.

You can pass current earnings to the report from another form via global variable, or use sub-report.

thanks for your efforts to list out the normal contents of a balance sheet.

however, i am well aware all the classifications that go to make a balance sheet
as i am a chartared account myself & have a full fledge general ledger table already designed and running.

i am having a problem in designing this balance sheet in a5v4 reports using subreports.. that is , 2 reports in the same report with assests on one side & liabilities on the other.

anyway, thanks for your help. mtm, have designed a form which works well as a balance sheet.

              thanks & regards,

                RE: Balance sheet report design

Vasant, you are welcome. Of course, like all questions on this board and any other help board, some basic facts should be set forth in the body of the questions, so that we who are trying to help, don't waste our valuable time.

                1. Provide an idea to the board of your skills--beginner,
novice, expert, thinks he/she is an expert etc.
                2. I am an accountant, am looking for the A5 code to do a
                balance sheet.
                3. I have tried this, or that, or the "usual" things.
                4. This seems to work--put code in, having trouble on this.

In this way, you might get a quicker, better answer.

Had I known you were an accountant, I would not have wasted my time e-mailing you and posting the simple balance sheet.

But, as we all realize, there is someone out there who has never seen one and so I realize that like we do, reading issues and problems--that maybe we do not have, or have never come up against--helps us understand processes and
methods to solve those processes that maybe we have never thought of using.

                In any event, good luck.
