Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Out of Control Control Codes

Does anyone know how to send control codes to a printer directly from Alpha 5? I need to send codes from within a report to a 40 column receipt printer.

    i don't really know.

you might try to create a calc field using the chr() function to send the codes. then put the calc field on the report.

(This is why people can't get their printers to do compressed printing - they have to send control codes to set and reset).

Might the receipt printer have any "emulation" modes? Such as emulating a HP Laserjet, or something similiar.
        Thank you,

RE: Out of Control Control Codes

These are essentially Generic Text Printers. The control codes are primarily used to expand text, change color from black to red, or to trip a cash drawer device.

The way I have been doing this was creating a dos file on the hard drive and maping out the entire report adding the control codes along the way.
What type and make printer are you using.
What Controls are you trying to use?

              Thanks for the response.

The printer is an Epson TM-T88II Thermal Printer (Serial).
Control Codes to trip cash drawer are (27,112,0,250,250)

RE: Out of Control Control Codes

I have had issues with the Epsons in windows and never got it resolved
The code I belive is 27,112,0,25,250 and that worked fine for me in Dos

what happens if you create a file with
these codes and send it to the printer using copy,
                copy file.name com1
see if it will kick the draw out.

you would have to create the file using ascii codes
you can do this using the A5 CHR() commands and file.write_line() commands

                Good Luck
Let us know how it goes

RE: Out of Control Control Codes

Here is a solution that wroks.

First enter this QBASIC program (KICKOUT.BAS)

Open "lpt1:" for random as #1
                  print #1, chr$(27);chr$(112);chr$(0);chr$(255);chr$(250);
                  close
                  system

Note: code for the com port if you have a serial printer.

                  Then write an APLHA5 script:

                  Sys_shell("c:yourdirectoryqbasic.exe /run C:yourdirectorykickout.bas",2)

Note: enter the two previous lines on one line.

                  It works.

Note: Replace yourdirectory with the path to A5
Place QBASIC.EXE and KICKOUT.BAS in the same path.

RE: Out of Control Control Codes

                    The script command should be:

                    sys_shell("c:yourdirectoryqbasic.exe /run c:yourdirectorykickout.bas",2)

RE: Out of Control Control Codes

There should be a back slash after the c: and after the yourdirectory
I write from a french keyboard and the backslash does not show
