A nursing home database containing tables for services such as doctors, dentists, opticians etc. (15 altogether) has been working perfectly for several years. Each table has a form attached to it with buttons for moving through records and opening a new one.
Suddenly, without obvious cause, one of the forms (doctors) refuses to open a new record; instead it duplicates the record which happens to be active at the moment. All the other 14 forms (which are structured in exactly the same way) continue to work properly as before.
The button concerned has the following script attached to it:
parentform.commit()
parent.allow_change(.T.)
parent.new_record()
END
Trying to open a new record using the relevant toolbar provided by the Alpha program produces the same result - duplication of a record instead of a new blank one.
Two machines are affected, one using plain Alpha4 v5 without the major update patch and Windows XP Pro; the other has versions 4.5 and 5 on it with a slightly earlier version of Windows XP Pro. All behave in the same manner which would seem to indicate that the problem lies with the application database.
We haven't switched to using Alpha5 v5 for the nursing home as this version has other problems associated with it which haven't been sorted out yet. The machines are not networked: one is the nursing home's and the other is mine (the developer) which I update from their data as an additional backup and also to check out further developments.
Would much appreciate any help all you knowledgable souls out there can offer.
Thanks,
Dennis
